Wab Kinew is awesome on Carney's gun grab, Ford and Carney on the rocks and the bad China deal...
Plus a the Full Comment Podcast on Iran.
Wab Kinew has been a surprise in more ways that one. He’s a New Democrat, don’t let him fool you, but he’s a different type of New Democrat to be sure.
Here he is defending his government’s decision to refuse to participate in the federal gun “buyback” program.
Why?
Kinew, as you will see, rightly knows that it won’t be an effective program and won’t promote or improve public safety.
Hat tip to CBC Watcher on X for the clip.
What is disturbing but not surprising are the questions from the reporter who clearly has no clue about guns. He just keeps repeating “assault rifle” over and over again and asking why Kinew doesn’t want to ban them.
There is no definition of assault rifle, the guns on the list from the Carney government are just ones they decided they didn’t like. Some are banned because they can shoot a powerful projectile - but just once, think big game guns - others just look scary to someone the government consulted.
On Saturday the Carney government announced their plans to take the disaster of a pilot program in Cape Breton and expand it nationally. Except, as I detailed in my column for the Toronto Sun, it won’t be national at all.
Manitoba isn’t participating but won’t ban the program, Ontario is doing the same, but Alberta and Saskatchewan have laws to actively block it.
The program will not work.
Love on the rocks for Carney and Ford…
When Carney announced his deal with China, Doug Ford was pretty surprised. He’s been working with Carney and his Liberal government pretty closely, so he was surprised when he didn’t get a call ahead of time from Carney to give him the heads up about the EV deal.
On Monday he said, “Well, at least I know where I stand now.”
You can read my whole column on the Ford-Carney bromance being in trouble. Ford also talks about the very real problems with Chinese spy cars.
As I detailed in a rather long post here over the weekend, there are a lot of problems with this deal.
Why did Carney make the announcement alone?
Why did Canada use definitive language and China was framed in very vague language?
Why wasn’t pork included in the products that China drop tariffs on?
There are so many issues. If you haven’t read the full post yet, it is worth checking out.

Canada sending troops to Greenland…
The entire Greenland things is getting crazy. As I explained on Warren Kinsella’s podcast, as I have said elsewhere, I’ve never believed Trump would invade Greenland, he wants to buy it.
The rhetoric out of Washington has become heated and crazy, but so has the rhetoric of those who say they are ready to fight the Americans for Greenland.
Seems like Carney wants to join the list of countries sending troops to Greenland - at least according to CBC.
Two senior Canadian officials have told CBC News that a set of contingency plans were drawn up last week and presented to the federal government.
A Royal Canadian Air Force contingent is already taking part in a pre-planned NORAD exercise in Greenland, but the prime minister is weighing whether to send additional forces as part of sovereignty exercises the Danes are planning, which could include drills to protect the Arctic island’s critical infrastructure.
As a friend said to me the other day, maybe all these countries ramp up their defence spending and assets in Greenland and Trump calls it a victory and moves on.
At this point we don’t know. Let’s hope nothing goes sideways.
The activist class is conspicuously quiet about Iran…
This week’s podcast is all about Iran.
Get the podcast mic that I use and trust…
From the official show notes.
Untold numbers of people demanding basic human rights have been killed by a corrupt, bigoted regime, but in the West there are no tent cities on campuses or raucous marches. As Iranian-Canadian human-rights lawyers Payam Akhavan and Kaveh Sharooz tell Brian, Western leaders, and even U.S. President Donald Trump, are proving largely ineffectual at helping the people of Iran. For now, the regime still seems to have the upper hand against a populace mostly abandoned by the international community. And while this is much wider and deeper than previous uprisings in Iran, it could end just as tragically — or worse. (Recorded January 15, 2025)

lol. Carney is a fraud. In it for Brookfield and himself. A “ European”. Canada be damned. You know it. .
So fkng embarrassing listening to that journalist who knows NOTHING about guns repeat the lies about ‘assault’ weapons. Thanks Wab for standing for legal firearms owners
