I enjoyed hearing these two authors being interviewed. As a canadian who has lived abroad for 45 years, i have noticed a huge shift in canada that was not mentioned in this interview. Canadians have prided themselves on "not being a melting pot like that horrible usa" down south. However, during the trudeau regime, the pop. of canada was increased from approx 30M to 40M (don't hold me fast to those exact numbers.) if you include that no one in canada thought these folks should assimilate and develop some canadian patriotism...well you got a big problem there. Add to that, that canadian education programs, cultural normals, and govt indoctrination has convinced more than half the country that they are evil colonizers. Convinced the indigenous people that they are just pathetic victims....at the same time that the govt did nothing to help the indigenous people with their very real problems, like clean drinking water...ok...i won't even touch on the murdered children story... add in trucker convoy division, hatred of antivaxxers, covid lockdown division, DEI policies designed to create division...the new trendy hatred of jewish people and christians. how does this kind of "nation" come together with a cohesive plan that everyone can sign on to? So much easier to point south and say: orangeman did it...or even if you are half awake: trudeau did it...no...canadians did it to themselves. It was a great country. But now, after years of penitent land acknowledgements, you are also going to have the legal battles over indigenous land claims...not looking good for canada.
I agree with you mostly Julia… Canada has been lethargic at best and we have a phoney population now, but I “loved” the truckers convoy! We have 4 sons and they don’t like us much, btw we are the forgotten gen . Great interview guys!
We loved the trucker convoy also. It woke us up, very belatedly, to what was really going on in this world...but once jack is out of the box, he won't go back in.
But yeah I think the constitution has to be amended big time but not by marxists!
We really had to work super hard our whole life just to survive in business with Pierre Trudeau as pm, and are still working hard! The taxes we pay in this country are ridiculous, still trying to get ahead at 64!! But going strong 💪🏻
If you think that Canada is not a “melting pot”, then you certainly haven’t been to Toronto, at least not in the last 50 years. It’s one of the most multicultural cities in the world. Diversity brings new flavours and new ideas. Yes, Trudeau was a terrible leader who focused on the wrong things, luckily now we have a PM who actually understands economics and its integration into the global economy.
How do you define “not doing any better”? Building Canada with long overdue infrastructure projects, developing multiple relationships with like minded trading partners around the world, diversifying away from a concentrated trading relationship with a now unstable US regime, increasing military spending and developing relationships with other democratic countries in an effort to stop authoritarian regimes (ie. Russia) and projecting stability in a very chaotic economic and political world? If any of that does not resonate, then yes, Carney is no different than Trudeau. And for the record, Trudeau was a terrible
PM, focused more on DEI and apologizing than he was in actually leading his country properly.
Well, actually, we lived in toronto until 1980 and then visited probably 4 times a year or more, until the last few years....yes, multicultural. But that does not seem to have led to cohesion and a sense of common purpose and common goals for toronto, much less ontario or the whole of canada, which is my point. Also, just my humble opinion, but toronto sure does have a lot of problems it didn't have before mass immigration and soft on crime policies...great way to generate hate and division. Remember: diversity and division have the same root word.
Hate and division in Toronto and Canada? Sorry, I don’t see it that way and I’ve lived in Toronto for the last 30 years. Is it perfect? No, immigration needs to be tightened down and reduced to welcoming the more skilled/educated newcomers that the country needs. The more open immigration policy, especially high levels of students, has exacerbated the housing shortage and led to higher rents and housing prices, especially in Toronto and GTA. Sure crime needs to be addressed, perhaps start with stopping illegal guns coming from the US. But in my view the hate and division is what is going on in the US, for a number of underlying reasons, not so much in Canada.
New Trendy Hatred of Jews? Julia, it never went away. It festered like an open sore. While we went along our merry way, patting ourselves on the back, such good tolerant people we Canadians are, smugly always nodding, condescending towards our neighbours down south. Not like them. We are the Good in the world, So Nice So Polite.
We have a facade at the UN which is nothing more than empty promises, lies, to the UN and other nation states within the UN, Genuflecting to the world seeking affirmation of Canadas role in the world. Under the guise of
" Canadian Values" . The former PM/ drama teacher using all his fake sincerity, an act of contrition on the world stage. Guilt shaming on the world stage.
So back to Jew Hatred. In all our universities, public service unions, teachers unions, from what I would say you could run a graph, a chart, from the seventies until this very day. There has been a campaign to marginalize the Jews. Sometimes done in the open, with no repercussions. Now add unfettered Muslim immigration, and then add to that an almost complete capture of Communist professors, ( read liberal) that have been anti israel anti jew. Add to that the old WASP mentality , the Catholics and Christians that still dont realize that the vatican council in the year of 1963? absolved jews of the death of christ. Some things never die.
So how deep is this hate and how did it explode after Oct 7th? I will explain. With mass migrations from the Arab world, came historical hatred and grievance. Every University and even some high schools have a Palestinian Students association. Where the cause is spread by lies. Tie this together with the communist professors and Islamic students association across Canada. And these organizations in every university are connected to like universities in Australia, the US, Europe, England and so on and so on. That is why they were already marching in the streets before most of the world knew exactly what happened. It was coordinated in advance. THEY KNEW what was going to happen.
The worst of it was our pathetic Priministers true colours came out, they surfaced for every one to see. He did it for votes.

I find it interesting that, when speaking of Mark Carney and his abilities to unite the country, there is no mention of the globalists' agendas that he very much believes in and still champions. This is his most serious fault as the country's leader and it has serious ramifications for Canadians. When Darrell Bricker and John Ibbitson talk about the PM having to capture a "Sir John A Macdonald moment," that is simply a moot point with Carney. I suggest the challenge as Carney sees Canada's current condition is not about building our nation but rather how to manage it for global, supranational causes. His globalist approach to Canada's issues clouds our natural resources development, fiscal approach, environmental policies, foreign affairs matters, and even our health care policies vis-a-vis pandemic preparedness. Carney's adherence to globalist agendas do not have the best interests of Canadians at heart - and, should he get his way, that will surely be the country's breaking point.
Carney and his globalists’ agenda? What nonsense is that? Surely you can’t be talking about developing Canada’s resources and selling them to like minded trading partners in a fair minded and respectful manner? You know, the complete opposite of what the Trump regime is doing. If you want a better understanding I suggest you listen to PM Carney’s speech at the APEC meeting in South Korea. I don’t see any globalist agenda, just prosperity and forward development for all trading partners.
Read his book. Look at his past responsibilities and deeds with WEF and UN. Consider his closest staff and advisers. His wife and her colleagues at the Eurasian Group. Consider what he has and has not done since becoming PM. If you cannot connect the dots (or won't), fine. Keep your elbows up and carry on.
What does that mean? What has he not done since becoming PM? People believe what they want to believe regardless of the facts. That Carney is orchestrating some elitist conspiracy to control the masses and get richer? What I see is a leader taking the necessary steps to reduce reliance on an unstable trading partner by building infrastructure in Canada and developing trading relationships with other like minded nations. That seems more like nation building than anything else, certainly not some kind of crazy conspiracy theory. If you want to go down that rabbit hole then go ahead.
About time. Carney has been sitting on his hands, being beaten up by Trump. He had to cancel all his tariffs and taxes. He is a fanatic globalist and voting liberal is the wrong thing.
Carney has been doing nothing? You have been listening to too many PP talking points. Just look up infrastructure development in Canada and the expanding of trade relationships outside of US to see what he has done.
I find it interesting that your interview lands on and somewhat focusses on western pipelines through BC. Definitely important for Canada. In fact strategically important. However, Bill C-69 and Bill C-48 put in place by Liberals and not repealed by Carney are massive stumbling blocks to progress and investment. Ye
I agree that he hasn't shown any ability to help negotiate agreement between Alberta and BC. I dont see that happening.
Still is a great country. It must be hard coming back to your country snd finding things have changed. Maybe you should go back to where you came from.
Seriously. You think this country is still great. I weep for the country I was born in. Maybe you should tell all the illegals to go back to where they came from.
Karen, we are talking about Canada right? There are a lot of illegals where you live? Numerous surveys have Canada the top or near the top of the most desirable places to live in the world. I have done some travelling and can confirm those surveys.
Perhaps there are other reasons for your love of Canada 40 years ago. Maybe you are stuck educationally, financially or socially. It’s common in older people who reminisce about the good old days.
The reasons are not because I'm stuck in anything. Not sure where you have traveled. When crime and lack of health care and housing are high I don't consider that a good. I'm just fine, but I worry about the younger generation.
Well, we must have grown up in different times. I was born in the late 50’s. There was poverty when I grew up. My wife and I struggled raising our kids in the 80’s, 90’s. You must remember interest rates of 18%. The prejudice against indigenous, people of colour, women were sickening. I’m sure you have read about Residential Schools. There was plenty of crime when I was a young man, but many were too afraid to report it. I distinctly remember that a man, who was characterized as a hippy was castrated and left to die on a country road. It wasn’t sensationalized like it would have been today. For me, growing up in a devoutly religious family, the ostracizing and requirement for compliance was stifling. I have been a home owner for 40 years and have never locked my door. I can guess, based on your comment, of the perspective of how you grew up.
What part of what I said was a problem for you Mark. If you feel my remarks were condescending or “me speaking down to you?” , I apologize. Unfortunately, you and some of the Maga brethren are on the end of condescending remarks all the time but most of the time you don’t even realize it. Maybe I should spell things out for you. When politicians like Trump and PP blow the dog whistle you start salivating because they are absolutely counting on your stupidity. They create fear about crime - you salivate- they take away the rights of all Canadians to “protect” us. Reality - Maga is more predisposed to criminal activity than typical liberal or democratic voters. In fact, some of you are so unhinged that you believe breaking the law, the truckers “protest”, is protecting our constitutional rights. PP even brought donuts, but behind your back is smiling at your stupidity. That is why he lies all the time. It’s because your stupidity knows no limits.
Your puppet masters lead you to believe that your poor economic standing is because of wokeism, or DEI, or the Global plot to take over the world. You are not “winning” in the current environment because you are stupid. Somehow you believe that tearing down the whole system, will bring you to the top where you belong. Racism, fear mongering, being uneducated will rule the day! You and people like you are destroying democracy because you don’t have the intellectual horsepower to vote in your own interest. You actually vote against it. The privatizing of medical services, education and cutting the social safety net as supported by the the “right” or Conservatives are the very supports that YOU need. Axe the Tax slogans are really “let’s get the stupid to vote for their own demise”, let the rich and oligarchs keep the money that would have been wasted on you. Look at the provinces where all of these things are being threatened. Do you see a pattern? Probably not.
Do you feel that a little reality is condescending? Absolutely! People like me are fighting to keep people like you employed, covered by universal health care, free education of high quality, and paying low taxes. Maybe it’s time to just shut the fuck up and let others look after what’s in your best interest. Get a life Mark.
Well, Brian, having read most of the comments here, i think it's safe to say that canada is as divided as i thought...and for some, the fangs are out. For others, heads firmly under their pillows....and as the authors assert: gonna be hard to find some common ground to keep canada together and a leader to do that...the commenters here demonstrate that very effectively. It seems to me that Trump has done a better job of raising some Canadian patriotism than any canadian has in a long time...but too many of you cannot see that. Orangeman bad...and elbows up and all that! Don't go to disney world or vegas and for sure don't buy florida orange juice! Lock up the american booze. And if americans do happen to come to visit canada..treat them badly....these are such effective ways of bringing about love of country, pride in country, patriotism and a desire for peace, safety, harmony. You know, in a family where the parents are divided and not getting along, one of the children begins to act out..and that child is the one blamed for everything, and sent to therapy...same in canada. Y'all aren't getting along....your country is in serious decline...look at your GDP for the last 10 years....but go ahead...blame americans, trump..the illegal guns from usa..
When I was in basic training in the RCAF, in the 60s, it was in Quebec, just south of Montreal. Being young and stupid, I thought the French Canadians liked us. I found out, I was wrong. I had never been hated before, but they told us right away. They called us square heads and we called them frogs. There was a wets there, so we could have a couple of beers in the evening. It had to be closed because of all the fighting. I have been treated much better in the states, and even Paris.
Yea right. Never ever did an Anglo say anything bad, insulting, derogatory, racist about a Quebekers. Never ever. I was born here in 56. Do you want me to write you a book on anti francophone and anti anglophone racisim in Quebec.
It can't be racism. All I wanted was a Quebec man to treat me with respect instead of scorn. The arrogance was stifling and rapid fire french ending with laughing. In contrast, the women were wonderful. My first posting was Bagotville and the working language was supposed to be English. But airmen who were separists were able to be posted there and were able to have the working language switched to French.

We held the key posts. We were making (forcing) the civil service bilingual (french), kicking and screaming all the time". Jean-Luc Pepin, Minister of Industry, 1970.

Le Chant des sirènes
Le "bon sens" est un faux consensus soutenant que chacun a la même point de vue que l'autre .

It almost seems like he wrote this piece with you in mind.
A tantôt
Fuck off you condescending cunt
Of course the women were wonderful. That we can agree on.
