Canada works best when rules make sense, but a growing provincial patchwork creates needless confusion. Today, depending on their postal code, adult Canadians face conflicting regulations and uneven access to legal smoke-free alternatives. The goal isn’t more rules — it’s better rules. Federal and provincial leaders must work together to establish one clear, consistent national framework that protects those underage, strengthens enforcement, and supports informed adult choice.
Wow, Did I Get That Wrong!
I’m not shocked at the House of Representatives flipping from red to blue. I have been saying that would happen. On the Senate, though, I thought it was going to be the Republicans hanging on by their fingernails.
Instead, they have flipped, at this point, seven seats.
Many of those victories were substantial, like the 12-point margin by which James Talarico defeated Ken Paxton in Texas. How bad of a candidate do you have to be to witness that kind of loss? Well, people in Texas warned Trump against backing Paxton, but Trump hated John Cornyn, a senator of 24 years, so much that he backed Paxton in the primary.
In South Carolina, Darline Graham, the sister of late Senator Lindsey Graham, lost 51.1% to 46.7%. She’s not a politician, she wasn’t her brother, she struggled on the campaign trail, and it’s amazing the race was that close.
These are two of the hand-picked candidates backed by Trump himself, who took to Truth Social to blame the candidates, claiming there wasn’t enough love for them.
Trump spent the last few week saying vote like he is on the ballot. It looks like voters did and they didn’t back him.
He blasted the media, including Fox News, for him losing.
The man had finished off Monday night appearing on Hannity and then started Tuesday morning on Fox & Friends, but was still blasting them as low-rated and useless because he didn’t win.
Even VP J.D. Vance made the point that Trump’s 2024 voters did come out, they just didn’t vote Republican this time.
The War With Iran Didn’t Help, but Not Like I Thought…
When Trump launched the war with Iran on February 28, 2026, I said that it was the right thing to do, but if it lasted long it would kill him in the midterms. That was my assessment on Warren Kinsella’s podcast when the war was launched, and it stayed consistent.
Perhaps I should have thought of that before saying I thought Republicans would hold the Senate.
Anyway, the war with Iran did hurt Trump, but not in the way I expected. I thought it would drive an awful lot of people away from the Republicans who voted for him on his promise to end the “forever wars.”
I’m not sure Iran currently counts as a “forever war,” but the desire of Americans to stay out of foreign wars has always been strong and has only gotten stronger after Iraq and Afghanistan. There was likely a strong contingent of people who voted for Trump in 2024 who either stayed home yesterday or voted Democrat over what they feel was a betrayal.
For the average voter, though, I’m talking about the swing voters who decide elections, it wasn’t the “forever war” aspect. It was simpler.
The price of gas.
Or, to be more specific, the price of diesel.
Gas under Trump is actually lower than the high under Biden, but diesel is higher, and that is the fuel that powers the trucking industry, agriculture, and more.
You want to understand why Democrats won in Iowa and Kansas? Look to this metric. Farmers, truckers, and anyone relying on logistics have been watching their costs go up and up.
A Blue Tsunami Ignores History…
Right now, the Democrats have flipped 31 House seats and seven Senate seats. Those numbers could change in either direction because votes are still coming in and some races are incredibly close.
The Democrats had an impressive night, but the hyperbole around the size of the win is a bit over the top.
If you are one of those Canadians who has lost your TV remote and can’t change the channel from CBC, you’d think this was the biggest win ever. That’s not close to reality, and putting the Democrats’ win into perspective doesn’t take away from their victory.
It’s sharing reality with your audience.
Nothing Substantial Changes for Canada on Tariffs…
I blame our media for being ignorant and incompetent for the fact that so many Canadians believe that Democrats winning the midterms changes tariffs. I’ve had so many people say to me, in person or through messages, that they are happy Trump lost the midterms and that now we can get rid of the tariffs.
That’s not the case and never has been.
The biggest tariffs hitting our economy are Section 232 tariffs imposed under the Trade Expansion Act of 1962. I’ve read the legislation so you don’t have to, and believe me when I say that, on national security issues, the law as passed gives the president of the day full authority to impose these tariffs.
The Democrats have not won enough seats in either house to attempt to repeal this legislation.
That means things stand as they are.
Canadian politicians have promoted the idea that the midterms would change this, but our media, for the most part, has not fact-checked them. You can hear it in the questions they ask. They don’t understand the law or the situation.
So we need to negotiate a deal to lower the tariffs because they won’t be going away.
That said, there are things we could do to boost our own economy, which is what I wrote about and produced this video for the Toronto Sun.
We need to change our tax laws and make ourselves more competitive.

Well now that Trump is weakened I’m sure master negotiator Carney will amaze us all with concessions he will be able to get. Cause isn’t that what the CDN media has been telling us? Wait for more Democrats and we will be fine? /sarc
The problem both in Canada and the US is that the left has control of the main stream media. And the general public have been indoctrinated by the leftist education systems. The public are therefore easily manipulated, and the majority don't have the critical thinking abilities to recognize the manipulation they are constantly bombarded with. These 2 problems have to be corrected before we can save western civilization. And make no mistake, western civilization is in grave jeopardy.
