Brian, why is it that everyone can shit on Pierre, and then God forbid he should say a little nasty thing about ones that put him down. What the hell why does he have to always shut up and take it?
The unthinkable is happening, a visible Conservative split. As you have alluded to, the growing split of once eastern Conservative voices now trashing western Conservatives who are steadfast in our support for the current Conservative leader is festering. How is it these eastern Tories are so much smarter (at least in their own minds) than us in the west? Were it not for independent media, particularly those living through the betrayal of westerners, we could refer to fortress Alberta as the Canadian Alamo.
The bias towards Poilievre and his supporters from Teneycke, DeLorean, Lilley, Coyne, and Soudas is telling. Ever since their vomit inducing comments, articles and rumours of Ford running for the Federal Conservative leadership real news has dropped off the radar overtaking immigration, the economy, healthcare, government spending, cost of living, or housing to name a couple of once prominent topics the once Conservative pundits have replaced with their own tripe.
Why are you talking about this? It is so petty. Media headlines like this one wad not needed. Why are you not writing about all of Carney’s conflict of interests. Things that actually matter. Thinking you are no different than the rest of the legacy media propaganda. We don’t care about Cory.
Lauren, your aim is spot on. When did Pierre and his supporters become the focus? The list of Carney’s ethical failures, lack of action, his double speak word salads and broken promises contain more than enough type to keep an army of honest media types employed for a life time.
MSM meaning: print media, radio media, television, internet, public discourse, and they are pushing against thought which are all interwoven. A quote that applies:
"When the powerful control the narrative, they hold the reins of perception. In the era of corporate western media, the masses must question what they're being fed, lest they become unwitting pawns in the game of power." — Jop Helm
I fear Brian has caught the contagion - Pierre gets constantly jabbed for just doing his job well and then gets crucified when, God forbid, he’s human with a clap back. I’m glad he did.
Pierre can lose 20 MPs and the only thing it will prove is that the party was full of self-serving, corrupt politicians available to the highest bidder. People are loyal to Pierre because we trust him. This attempt to oust him is only making people distrust everyone else.
I support Polievre, too, but I wonder about your statement that "we trust him". He hasn't been in a position ,yet we hope, to prove he's worthy of that trust. Two issues make me question's Polievre's motives; he is against changing supply side management, and he said he won't alter the way equalization payments are done. He also voted against a 2012 Bill to stop floor crossing. He talks the talk, but we shall see if he walks the walk, IF he ever wins an election.
Perhaps it is true that he hasn’t earned everyone’s trust, but as patbw clearly stated he, or almost any honest person, would be hard pressed to achieve a level of corruption close to what Carney has. I don’t want a leader who gets along with everyone…I want a leader that is as honest as humanly possible and willingly shows acknowledges his flaws.
Agree with you Don, also he says he represents average Canadians but lives in a taxpayer paid for mansion, another example of not walking the walk. He could just turn it down.
It’s tradition. It’s where the loyal opposition resides. People really need to get over it. I don’t even understand why this is brought up gsakes. Carnage live at Rideau Cottage. Official residences. Get over it.
Brian, I want to remind you that Korey is a lobbyist for LNC Lavilin Lobbying forcontracts on behalf of Lavilin from the federal government for the high speed train.
Korey Has gone out of his way, especially on CTV to demean Pierre because of his jealousy for not being picked as the campaign organizer He bragged how he was gonna put the axe liberal now conservative into the position of leader to BC conservatives, and that Pierre had to change everything he was doing in order to be successful and that he was gonna be a failure. Otherwise Korey has also been rumoured to be attempting to promote a leadership review of Pierre from his position as lobbyist So when Pierre speaks out against him, you think that’s not good I think times have become so bad that the opposition now needs to stand up and take a more extreme approach. Marc Kearney is leading us down the path to communism and economic, social Room and he’s doing an intentionally we’re gonna be catching up to the UK in problems within 12 months at this rate and you and your commentary are now being way too soft maybe you don’t want to upset Doug Ford, but Doug Ford is not done a lot for the massive workforce in the auto industry in Ontario. He seems to want a pander to the anti-Trump theme as a way to stay in power but not really do anything. Doug Ford should be demand in carney make a deal with the US and he should also be pushing not to have Chinese EV‘s. Especially in light of China, adding more tariffs to Canada! I think we’re gonna be entering a period of our war for survival and I don’t mean it physical war I mean a propaganda and verbal war and we’re gonna see CBC and others attempt to massacre. Pierre and I congratulate him for his strength so far and I remind you how much the people in Calgary cheered for him when he was there and where he goes and meets people face-to-face they cheer for him. We have hungry people in Canada. we have serious economic problems in our government and living in the middle earth somewhere. Dreaming of a New World order
I agree with John Smith although his post takes some reading correction for literacy. Assuming it’s true. Anyone paid by SNC Lavalin as a lobbyist has to have questionable character. I know nothing of this Korey character except what I see and hear on TV . What I see is an egoistical ,pompous, self serving creep.
How is Mark Carney repeatedly proving he is a corrupt and disingenuous snake using slimy inducements for political gain at the expense of ‘democracy’, Poilievre’s issue?
It should be an issue for Canada’s media not holding the Liberal corruption to task but instead they seek a faux and theatrical accountability by blaming the leader of the opposition who is opposed to the same corruption that enriches the Liberal media.
They will never ever self-indict a co-conspirator (themselves) nor a defective political system that guarantees enrichment for insiders at the expense of citizen tax donkeys losing their property and natural liberties to a bunch of criminal embezzlers.
It’s a bad day for ALL Canadians EVERY day corrupt politicians stay in power.
I think you may be underestimating some very real anxiety among Conservatives that a new leader might govern like Ford (big deficits, too much mollification of far left ideology—basically not much different than the federal Liberals, if at all). I’m in BC and I did not want Elliott because of her connection to Teneycke and what that might mean for economic policy. Polievre is the only one among Conservative leaders really addressing the economic emergency we’re in, so many people who are feeling that emergency are pretty uncomfortable with having him undermined.
Please indulge me several comments on Pierre Poilievre’s job security:
1) Doug Ford has nothing with which to threaten Pierre Poilievre.
2) Pierre Poilievre has assembled the best shadow team, and the best bench of any Party in recent memory.
3) If Conservatives just wanted to win for the sake of winning, we would have elected Jean Charest. Conservatives actually want to change the way things are done in Canada. Pierre Poilievre represents that change.
4) She would never lead the charge against him, but keep your eyes on Danielle Smith.
Great post, great take on the Ford/Poilievre feud, and please keep up the great, old fashioned, good ole, Canadian journalism.
Ford will NEVER be leader of the federal conservatives he’s a mess and messy!! Pierre isn’t going anything wrong. Blame this on carney!! The lying cheating stealing PoS!!
Brian makes good points on striving for additions not subtractions. You need united points of view but sometimes with variations. Cooperation and coordination for the advancement of the “whole”.
Brian, you say you have never seen so many mp lost in 25 months....but we have never had such an authoritarian PM like carney at the helm!! Its all corrupt and hungry for power. That's why. So as above, why is Pierre supposed to just sit back and take the constant smears?!! It won't matter who's the leader of cpc, the smears would continue
Conservatives leaving the party proves the consensus among too many voters that “politicians by and large are corrupt and out for personal gain””. What I don’t get is why are the Conservatives getting the ink and air time when at least as many Liberals have jumped from the deck of a sinking Liberal ship?
This appears to be a war to destroy the Conservatives from the inside. And the Liberals are very good at strategy. They are effectively dismantling the Conservatives. But the whole thing stinks with MPs showing they are ultimately disloyal to their constituents. And sadly, most Canadians are deft. They don’t even realize what’s happening. Democracy in Canada appears to be dying.
Pierre is having a great day. The swamp is being exposed and going to where they all belong with the corrupt Liberals. If the elections were not interfered with Conservatives would be better off. FORD is LIB.
The Conservatives need to start playing politics better in this era. They shouldn't run a candidate in the Chicoutimi by-election. Give the Bloc a fighting chance a winning the riding since the CPC can't.
You, Brian Millie are just another Ford)! I won’t be listening to you ever again… Why are you piling on Pierre? Carnage Kearney is ruining our country and you’re election criticizing Pierre?? Goodbye!
Typical Liberal… the opposition is forbidden to have an opinion… It’s either the liberal way or everybody is wrong… Don’t even bother to respond… It’s futile
He isn’t. He brings up the point that maybe his campaign/speech manager should concentrate on unity not division. Don’t further your cause by criticizing those in your own party.
I say this because I personally can’t stand Teneyke, but as a conservative, I wish Pollievre would choose his words more carefully. In these times, integrity counts more than ever. And I do believe Pierre still has that virtue.
Freedom to speak, would be to provide a relevant argument. Not listening or hearing and then cancelling someone, negates their freedom of opinion. Debate should take precedence over silence.
Of course, you are free to not hear anyone's opinion. Most people here on Brian's stack are not Liberal, I have observed, and it remains your prerogative to disagree with me.
To disagree and then label someone with a judgement without sound argument, however, is weak.
Let's say it out loud. Ford isn't equipped to lead this country. That being said - Canadians who are not already devout Conservatives don't really behind Pierre...
The CPC needs to take a hard look at themselves and ask who can we sway over to us and how do we do it from the middle votes.. Honestly, Melissa Lantsman - she is well equipped to lead the country and the CPC. the second answer is dismantle the oligopolies - open Canada up for business and stop bailing out big business that only takes the money and runs later on... these few things would well align with the CPC and moderate middle voters to win an election...
Hopefully the membership take can sober look at the shambles they are in and sort their way out without blaming other people - that never fixes the problem.
I think Ms Lantsman does a great job. Going to a Pride event however was a misstep. I don't care what people do in their bedrooms and parading that sort of stuff is just wrong.
"the west" isn't the voting bloc you think it is - nor does it have the voting power youre insinuating... Get a grip. Melissa is a viable path forward otherwise there is nothing else showing right now.
I think Melissa Lanstman is the best candidate for leadership in the CPC, BUT due to the rampant anti-semitism in this country now, she would never win an election and might even lead the CPC to third party status.
Fair enough. I'd like to think that while the antisemitism is open and loud and in our faces - the majority of Canadians are still against it... Perhaps that is my own naivety.
You are making assumptions of what I am thinking. I didn’t say we have the power in the west to be a king maker. I said the west will not accept any more laurentians.
Seperation sentiment will grow and the exodus out of the country will too.
Ok you're right - I shouldn't presume to know what you're thinking. Mea culpa mena...
However you speak as though the west is a monolithic bloc - it isn't. Manitoba and Saskatchewan are distinct from Alberta and each other, and have split factions with in them.
Furthermore, the separation movement is fringe - it doesn't bother me, it strikes no fear in my heart and I live in "the west"... The exodus you speak of is real - I have friends and family who are part of it - I've contemplated it myself - but that is due to Jew hate - not an expiring liberal government or an impotent CPC that rise to the occasion because they're throwing temper tantrums about the Laurentians and elected officials... I've heard of no one except the Jewish community leaving.. so if there is another exodus for any other reason - please do share I'd love to learn more...
Brian, it sounds like you put this together as a filler on a day without any ideas. Recall both Scheer and O'Toole tried Liberal Lite and got sand kicked in their faces. The issue is the lopsided balance of power between conservative west and liberal east. Also recall last election, Carney rode on Poilievre's ideas and anti-Trump sentiment. He essentially lied his way in and the Liberal east swallowed it whole cloth.
I think the joke was goated. But in order for Polievre to gain momentum in the polls, the Conservative Party needs to change its messaging and be more bold with policy. In politics, there are two ways to win an election. One is to attack/criticize your opponent, the other is to propose policy solutions to the issues. Polievre does a great job at exposing liberal issues, but should try to prioritize his solutions more. As a candidate for PM, people want to know YOUR SOLUTIONS. People already know the issues. They know their housing is more expensive. They know their neighbourhoods are unsafe. They know that immigration is out of control. But they want hope. They want optimism, and Polievre needs to give them that optimism through bold policy solutions, like a 25% across the board tax cut. Polievre needs to emphasize his solutions. Instead of saying, “After 10 years of failed liberal policy”, say “Conservatives are proposing”/“Conservatives are introducing”. That shows the people that you have solutions to our issues, and would make them want to vote for hope. Stop complaining. Start proposing.
Brian, why is it that everyone can shit on Pierre, and then God forbid he should say a little nasty thing about ones that put him down. What the hell why does he have to always shut up and take it?
Always two rules in this country. Conservatives must be beyond reproach. Liberals can basically get away with anything.
True! So work with it.
We in Saskatchewan are done with the Carney kool-aid gang.
You mean like keep-the-capital-hostage-for-a-month irreproachable?
Paula, you make a heck of a good point.
Yes please answer me that too! I feel you are being loyal to the east
The unthinkable is happening, a visible Conservative split. It's simply because the msm is in the clutches of the Liberal party.
Agree! 100 percent!!
I fear Brian has caught the contagion - Pierre gets constantly jabbed for just doing his job well and then gets crucified when, God forbid, he’s human with a clap back. I’m glad he did.
Dam straight! Why should we not crap on Carney for all the times he's crapped on us! Fair is fair!
Because the media picks up on it, and they influence the voters. Pierre needs to be more on his guard. Perception counts.
Excellent comment, Paula.
What he said was nasty and deserved to be called out for it.
Pierre can lose 20 MPs and the only thing it will prove is that the party was full of self-serving, corrupt politicians available to the highest bidder. People are loyal to Pierre because we trust him. This attempt to oust him is only making people distrust everyone else.

It surely can't be worse than the blatant corruption Carney is spewing. He's not even trying to hide it…

Please put Fred DeLorey, Andrew Coyne, and Dimitri Soudas on the list w/ Teneycke. All lobbyists shitting on their own once laudable credentials.

Elliott is a Liberal. The people who voted with her are Conservative in name only and it should concern us that the voting was that close.
Hey, Brian.
Heck of a good post.
Please indulge me several comments on Pierre Poilievre’s job security:

Smith will not take a run at CPC leadership. She is busy in Alberta
I wasn’t suggesting right away.
2-3 years.
Does having 83 people in his shadow cabinet really demonstrate that he is going to have government get out of the way when he is elected?
Ford will NEVER be leader of the federal conservatives he’s a mess and messy!! Pierre isn’t going anything wrong. Blame this on carney!! The lying cheating stealing PoS!!

*impotent CPC that*CANNOT* rise
When will Ontarian’s get it, Ford is a Liberal pretending to be a Conservative.
He has coned Ontario from day one, it is now starting to catching up with him.
Ford has had his 15 minutes.
Time for change.
Ontarian’s deserve better.
The farmer took another load away and by the smell of it, you can tell it is not hay.
Welcome to Ford Nation that is crumbing.
