I believe that the comparison to the US economic performance was based on the fact the US initiated the trade war with Canada, and the rest of the world for that matter except curiously enough, Russia. And also because the deranged US president said that his trade war was going to devastate Canada and force us to become its vassal state. That hasn’t happened - in fact the US has been hurt more than us. That is the necessity comparison, not the past performance of the Canadian economy on a period over period basis.
Try reading a paper or watching tv or something. They are spending $25 billion on arctic defense and infrastructure. But don’t take my word for it - what does Germany and Norway think about what Canada is doing. They are expanding cooperation on arctic defence.
Next time don’t have bases on the other side of the planet and you won’t be “attacked.” It’s no different when Canada runs warships through the Taiwan Strait across the Pacific Ocean. Or, arming neo-nazis (Azov Battalion) in Ukraine over in Europe.
