The majority that have walked away were liberals posing as conservatives and were not looking for the hard work of cleaning up a province that is arguably beyond saving. KLF is the Little Red Hen. She'll bake that cake come hell or high water; then when everything is looking like BC might not implode, all the naysayers will come back for a piece and say they were with her all along. She hasn't done anything yet that conflicts with her campaign platform. It's not her judgement that needs to be questioned; it's everyone who signed up to run and didn't realize this is do or die for the province of BC. It was also reported, by the Western Standard, that Trevor Halford was actively organizing a coup to remove her as leader. This is one of the only times KLF acted decisively. You cannot have people actively questioning leadership, and campaigning to oust the leader, in caucus.
I'm not going to get into faux debate about who is a 'liberal or who is a 'conservative'. The more honest take is that what is happening to the BCCP is both a mixture incompetence and and sabotage.

Sabotage by certain disgruntled MLAs and political operatives behind the scene that never wanted her in leadership. When I say political operatives I don't mean people like Kory Teckneyke. This reference is to the old BC Liberals operatives largely located in Vancouver (the power center of BC). Think the 'White Spot Meeting' that reportedly happened a few weeks back.
I think Findlay is best for B.C. but there are forces (not unlike Trump) that will do ANYTHING to destroy common sense & people who want to put us all back on track. It's disgusting!

That was before the leadership contest. Milobar - who placed last in the leadership contest - and his five cronies left the party in an attempt to drive out Findlay. This has obviously been a highly organized campaign of carefully spaced departures to keep control of the news cycle and undermine the democratically elected leader.
As to Caroline Elliott, the big mistake she made was hiring the detested Kory Teneycke as her campaign manager. It was good for him, financially, but a disaster for her chance to win.
Today's news just reinforces these points. Because there is no chance of getting official recognition of a new party any time soon, Milobar took over Mike Grenier's CentreBC party. Wisely, they appointed Milobar leader. He obviously has no use for democratic leadership contests, and if they had one and he lost, he'd leave and start another party. Grenier, the former leader of CentreBC, stated recently that he is "70% to 80%" in support of NDP policies. Milobar, after taking over, stated that climate would be one of three priorities for the party. Noticeably absent was any mention of dealing with the aboriginal court cases that are wiping out private property ownership in B.C. So CentreBC looks like it will fit politically between the NDP and the Green Party.
It is tremendously disappointing that these MLA's had their fingers crossed behind their backs when they ran under the 2024 platform, as shown by their departure when a leader who will enact that platform is chosen.
The BCU MLAs never embraced the BC Conservative platform. The jumped in the BCC to save their paycheques. This mutiny was always hovering in the wings if Milobar didn't win and force the BCC left to become one more version of the BC Liberal party under another label.
I have been impressed with KerryLynne Findlay. She has articulated a vision for BC that would bring a balance in power, would pay attention to the Forestry industry which has languished under the NDP bad management and money wasting. She would repeal DRIPA which was a UN document designed for indigenous peoples in Third World countries, never meant for wealthy western nations. She would collaborate with the western Canadian provinces to eliminate trade barriers and work to reduce foreign interference in BC and to support law and order on the streets of major cities. The strong attempt to throw her out of a duly elected position as leader before she has secured her seat tells me that the forces of previous BC Liberals did not ever acknowledge her leadership and have been working since May to erode her status. The voters who want a choice that is not NDP or Green are being denied a chance for a Conservative Premier after the next BC Election. If the Conservative Party does not win in the next election, fine, challenge her leadership. In the meantime, get out of the way.

Unpopular opinion: if you can’t hold a coalition together you can’t lead and you can’t win. There will always be those that refuse to compromise and believe they know better but if you can’t hold the majority together, you’re sunk. She’s lost almost half the caucus. It’s not viable. I had high hopes for her but she can’t pull this off.
If Conservatives worked actively on tolerating some viewpoint diversity, talked to each other to get clear on what unites us, and focused on policy rather than identity politics (“that person is a Liberal, that one is True Blue”) we might actually get somewhere. Now we have a split vote and that incompetent Eby will be reelected.
