Great interview, Brian, but I do have one comment about something that simply wasn't clear.
David Knight Legg was absolutely correct in saying that the resources are owned by the provinces and Ottawa simply has no control over those resources. He also noted, again correctly, that export taxes are a really bad idea. What he didn't say was that export taxes are ILLEGAL. Such taxes are illegal under the Constitution and that position was upheld against Trudeau the elder in the 1980s.
The only, only, only thing that the feds can do is to prohibit exports but, as noted by him, that would be so catastrophic on so many levels that the feds had better not do it. In addition, if the feds did that, you can be sure that support for separatism in Alberta would absolutely skyrocket.
Of course, just because something is a truly, truly, truly awful idea, that doesn't mean that the Laurentians won't find it attractive and do it.
Alberta oil is already being forced to decarbonize using the Pathways (with Brookfields involvement) which will make it some of the most expensive oil in the hemisphere.
By the time it comes to market, the Orinico basin oil will be widely available to the US and world markets.
Carney and his UN, WEF associates intend to lead Canada into agenda 2030 with its fossil fuels in the ground, its prime lands under the control of the indigenous and its economy on life support from a IMF bailout.
Yes and Carney and company in 2032 or 2034 when the fund he is involved in reaches its full potential and Carney wealth will be absolute on the scale of Elon Musk and others and on all our tax dollars
Excellent interview. I only wish the people in power would start engaging a few brain cells and recognize how wrong‑headed their approach to Canadian oil has been. This mindset is exactly what pushed us into the current mess with the Americans. We could have had pipelines to both coasts built, operating, and generating real wealth for this country. Instead, we’re stuck with narrow‑minded politicians who are happy to spend the revenue but terrified of letting Canadians benefit too much — apparently prosperity might make us “weak.”
And of course, the fallback excuse is always the same: “We have to save the planet.” Meanwhile, the economic damage keeps piling up, and Canada keeps missing opportunities that were once well within reach.
Strange isn’t it.. it seems that not only China…and India, but also the Middle East, are highly invested in Canadian resources and Canadian infrastructure. Add to that, the UN has managed to fulfill its partial mandate regarding immigration from the two most highly populated countries. Chinese steel, Indian steel are allowed into Canada, but what, if any, are the tarrifs attached. Our steel companies are dying, our car industry is teetering and now we need a rapid rail system. ALL NEED STEEL and labourers. Then there’s the obvious connection with all parties adhering to autocracy and blatant political/criminal interference. So there’s that!
We need labourers for this “massive federal major projects”. We need skilled labour. We need like minded same valued people to be welcomed with open arms.
Would that involve the migration of third world countries into one of the largest landmasses. Globally. Canada. They’ve begun, but nowhere near their quota.
Unfortunately, it seem that this projected labour force are, by and large, not physically motivated.
Interesting concept when it comes to possible expansion of pipelines. Or any labour intensive project.
Not sure how Carney can justify pipelines and incorporate climate change incentives, obvious need for diesel and indigenous land rights.
All pretty convoluted. Carney’s response would be interesting. But never beneficial to Canadians.
I like one of Dan McTeague's points about Ford threatening to cut off or interfere with energy supply, whether oil or electricity. What's the next step? Cut the Americans off and then... wait for them to beg for mercy?
Basically such threats show how petty and tyrannical our governments have become, wanting to use threats and intimidation on foreign governments who were our best friend and ally five minutes ago.
I don't think our governments are tyrannical but they most certainly are clueless and petty. I guess this is what happens when history revisionists win the day. You create a society of clueless, perpetuelly offended idiots with opinions not based in facts.
My reference to tyrannical is the dictionary definition of the word, to wit: using power or authority in a cruel, harsh, and unfair way.
Can you find a better word to describe someone talking about cutting off electricity and/or natural gas and/or oil to quote Doug Ford "with a smile on my face"?
Your description of the history revisionists and results is spot on!!
What a great interview! All Canadians would benefit from watching this but unfortunately, we'll continue to be governed by morons who think gasoline for their car comes from the pump, heat for their house comes from the thermostat and lights are these magical things that come on whenever they touch the magic button on the wall... clueless all of them as are most Canadians.
You can't run a country on emotions; it may get you elected but it produces nothing.
This is a world for grown ups and Canadians continue to demonstrate why we're always relegated to the kids table.
Do well stated. It reminds me of a visit to a lawyers office a few years ago. Under the glass top desk, he displayed numerous news clippings. I read one I couldn’t believe. Basically, a journalist asked a teacher where her pay check came from. She replied, “the school board”. He then asked where the school board got the money for the paycheques. She didn’t have an answer. When the journalist said it was from taxes from taxpayers. She didn’t believe him. 😳
I think this is the mentality of those that are government supported and support Carney’s group
Everything with the left seems skin deep. They don't ask the questions because they don't want to hear the answers. Even when you put all the evidence in front of them, they prefer to close their eyes and ears. Logic and common sense is not a thing for them, it's all emotions.
This would kill our already very weak economy. Absolutely crushing Alberta and Saskatchewan. Disgusting how the East uses Alberta and hates us at the same time.
What a revealing conversation. It’s refreshing to hear from individuals that have a comprehensive understanding of the “oil industry” and its relevance to not only Canada’s economy, but globally.
Thank you Brian, for bringing “strategic” matters to the forefront.
As usual, everyone can make what they want of the conversation, but I’m definitely enlightened.
Should I post this on Mr Carney’s many social media outlets?? 😉
Great convo guys, thank you! And hopefully Danielle Smith can help other premiers to grow some brain, even tho it’s late in the game!

Enjoyed the insights. Should be a required listen for all our premiers and prime minister.
How about required listening for ALL Canadians!
Agreed!
Trump would look at any attempt to limit energy as an act of war. Get those talks going again without the baseless threats.
Nothing like cutting off our nose to spite our face.

Truer words
What wasn’t discussed this time is that China is stoking dissension between the U.S. & Canada
We need to keep our continent strong and free of Chinese control. Great talk though.
Might be too late in the game for that. They are already fully embedded

Canada is merely “useful”.
Only a country lead by Sociopaths that what nothing but to see the end of it as a country would put an export tax on there biggest commodity!!!
But. Remember, None of this would ever be happening if the Oil and Gas was in Fing Ontario or Quebec!!!!!!

I think maybe devious describes them well but I think you're right, tyrannical also applies.
A bad idea that didn't even come from Alberta!!! All of a sudden Alberta oil is important for Canada?? F-off losers!!
I hope that was directed at the government.
Of course!!
Great discussion Brian, David is calm, intelligent and knows his stuff. I'd love to him and Josh Wingrove on a discussion piece together.
Don’t trust the Liberals to do what ever will screw what use to be a a country called Canada!!!

absolutely right. Logic and common sense are a foreign entity to them.
