Perhaps if we were honest with Canadians that are ignorant to the fact that Canada has used tariffs in similar manners, since 1879. Especially on protectionist tariffs on dairy, up to 200-300%. Also the fact that the dairy cartels force Canadian farmers to dump over production. But then they couldn't fix the pricing.
Our prime minister seems far too impatient and eager to write off the U.S. as our major trading partner, that in itself makes me suspicious of him and his “new” government.
Also, he has yet to spend any time governing from Ottawa, or proposing legislation that hadn’t already become Liberal policy from before he took office. We’re still getting gun buybacks, EV mandates, draconian carbon pricing and critical race theory quotas. Heck, I could do the job on that basis.

Trump is forcing manufacturers to return to the US after decades of off shore low cost cheap products . Canada is at odds over this as the libs are globalists. They are running Canada into the ground thru no economic gain, drugs and Chinese interference. Trump is pointing that out for all to see.

He went after the Canadian dairy industry as Canada has a 270% tariff on dairy (2018 data) from the US. The difference now is that government funded media is putting this to the forefront to make everyone hate Trump and his tactics and boost the views of the current Liberal government.
