I have lived in Ontario all my life, and blows my mind how these people take for granted the western provinces. Not sure what they think they are, but, they need to learn how much they contribute to the Canadian economy. There is oil which we should be promoting, selling as much as we can pump to all coasts. There is potash , fertilizers the world wants, uranium, salt, other mining products, hydro electric plants, farming, beef, canola, wheat, grains that feed the world, tourism and list goes on.

All of this contributes to the equalization payments the eastern non believers rely on

It’s time all Canadians, especially the east, start learning to promote all of Canada for its resources and those that contribute.

We should all be equal partners not just the takers and givers

“We built a pipeline for them”. The arrogance and stupidity of that belief would be beyond comprehension if it wasn’t the typical arrogant entitled attitude of Liberals. Kinder Morgan would have built this pipeline without taxpayers. The cost of building this pipeline was said by many analysts to have gone 3 times over budget. Everything the greasy corrupt Liberal government touches goes over budget. Arrive Scam, Green Slush Fund, immigration, contract to China for ship building, Freedom Convoy people in court since 2022, Infrastructure Bank funding China, funding terrorist supporting UNRWA …..and on and on and on

Agree 100%. Considering which industries pay the ever increasing bills run up in this country, it would be more accurate to say two western provinces bought and built a pipeline for Canada.

We built the pipeline for them?? Wtf are you talking about!? It was the moron lie-brals who keyboshed the pipeline and the company was ready to pay for it with shareholders money. But because the idiot lie-brals couldn't push their end of the bargain to give right aways for it the taxpayers footed the bill when the corporation pulled out due to federal/bc provincial red tape. 🙄 you guys get it straight.

Population of Atlantic Canada - 2.7 million. Federal seats 32. One seat per 83,000 people (PEI has 1/45,000!). Alberta federal seats - 37. Alberta population 5 million. If Alberta was EQUAL to the Atlantic provinces it would have 60 seats. If Alberta were EQUAL to Quebec we'd have 42 seats. This is only one thing that the west is fed up about. Alberta has paid to be equal for decades forking out an extra 20 BILLION staying Canada tax that goes to the east, largely Quebec, who ironically believe they deserve to profit form Alberta's oil wealth but should not be allowed to put a pipeline across Quebec. The east mocks us as whiners but they have no idea how mad we are out here.

Canada's Democracy is fatally flawed. The origins of Democracy were in small countries (like France) where almost all political concerns were the same across the country. It worked there. However, as the American Founding Fathers knew, a huge, geographically diverse nation would never operate with a pure Democracy defining the national politics. There are too many major differences across the country for "Rep by Pop" to work. Canada adopted the French model of pure Democracy which was a huge mistake. Canada is doomed because only 2 Provinces control the government of the entire country. Separation is currently the only solution to fix this before the whole country implodes.

Thanks Brian for all the great articles you write.

I live in Alberta and the separatist movement is escalating. It is even stronger in Saskatchewan.

As you know, Confederation hasn’t changed since it was started. Therein lies the problem.

Western Canada has effectively no voice in how things get run in Canada.

If we out west were to form our own country, we could be so much better off financially and with our decision making.

Unless significant changes are made in how Canada operates, we see no future in staying together.

Maybe one day, before it’s too late, Eastern Canada will wake up. Otherwise, we will remain divided and maybe, permanently in the form of another country.

The ability to tank the economy, build unsustainable debt, and to project their own failures on others, are just some of the #Left’s many treasonous forte?

***Im not sure how carney expects us to make money without selling our resources. Oil mainly. Maybe after the trade deals are resolved if they ever do, we might know more.

***Trucker convoy, i read were pawns.

They were long haul drivers that could not cross the border to make a living.

***Anyone that riles a crowd up too chant death to IDF is not an entertainer. They know and understand the situation right now. The organizers of the concert need to share some of the responsibility for letting them play.

***the flag. Since Trudeau, we associate the flag with the liberals and Trudeau.

I have attended Ottawa for Canada Day..its not on my radar now. Did it once . Enough. But i do some days feel CANADA is imploding in front of our faces. Like how the protesters took over and no one in the govt or law enforcement seems to care.. what the rest of us think.

Our rights, our freedoms dont seem to matter. Ho hum !!

I appreciate this article from Mr. Lilley. It underscores my reasons for supporting Alberta’s secession from Canada. If the people that actually NEED to read this column read it, my views could change. I am not optimistic, however…

I am originally from Ontario, moved to Edmonton in 1985 ( consider what was going on in Alberta then). At the time I thought Alberta separatists were nuts- didn’t get it. After the last 11 years of LPC madness, I finally do. I used to sing the national anthem out loud at events, and was often one of the few. I don’t sing it anymore, and I think I’ll be ordering my Republic of Alberta shirt this week….what have we got to lose? I don’t, sadly, see any signs that anything in Canada will change any time soon. That opportunity was missed last election.

Great article, Mr. Lilley. The hard part is to get Liberals to read this with comprehension. Even harder is to get Liberals to change their anti-West sentiments. They seem to be stuck in a groove.

Canada is what Canadians make it, garbage in, garbage out. Canada needs a new system pf governess, you can not change or fix the old system, it is what it is, does not work anymore, Canada needs a New system, not meaning the NWO, that is pure evil BIS Cha(bad) snake oil bullshit, no more old Jurassic Park British Parliamentary Governess, no more party politics, “ The Republic of Canada “ by Canadians for Canadians, each MP is elected in their jurisdiction, no more majority party politics, we elect a PM on his own merits, get rid of the corrupt evil Cha(bad) monarchy, would be a few good first steps to true sovereignty, freedom and Canadian way.. God Save Canada.

Freedom convoy was a “ thing”. Government squashed that in the most tyrannical way possible. Chris and Tamara continue to be persecuted to this day for “ mischief”

The obscene liberal parliamentarians who orchestrated this remain. Along with Carney now, he who figured “ one tank would do” and the scabrous Freeland who boasted of seizing Canadians bank accounts. For protesting the government ‘s tyranny.

Tyranny revealed as real and unsubstantiated by “ science”.

Many Canadians would be afraid to foment change. Most immigrants love the free money.

My riding is conservative.

My hope dwindles. lol.

Unfiltered's avatar

Canada is the migrants ATM machine without having to work or contribute to Canadian society hanging out at a mall parking lot to discuss their next scam on Canada, would love to see their education credentials where the come from..?

John Powell's avatar

I’m a monarchist. I was born in Britain . I agree with you. Westminister parliamentary tyranny doesn’t work. How do we become a republic ? 51 st state would be so easy.

Ok relax. I’m just talking here. Put your pearls down. lol

Unfiltered's avatar

How to foment change is to make Canadians want real change, easier said than done, but the solution.

The same people complaining about being insulted have no problem saying that those of us east of Yorton or west of Canmore are all a bunch of gullible idiots too dumb to realize we are being misled by the "Lauentian Elite" of some other crazy cabal.

Jim Kent's avatar

Anyone who voted the Liberal disaster back into power is a "gullible idiot" - either that, or they support the destruction of this country for some reason while still living here.

I love that a “trigger” warning was included in the picture of the flag. It reminds me of a recent book review of Orwell’s “1984” by Matt Taibbi and Walter Kirn. Kirn pointed out that the most recent edition of the book included a trigger warning, probably (as pointed out by an incredulous Kirn) the most obvious sign that we are actually IN 1984 right now.

Carney and Trudeau have worked for the WEF for over 10 years, over half the Federal Liberal Cabinet were placed by #KlausSchwab, the head of the #WEF. #MarkCarney continues to work for the WEF, and he wrote a book about Canadians being controlled, depopulated, owning nothing, and being happy. He has falsely pushed a climate agenda of hardship and wasted petrochemical resource opportunity, all the while massively continuing his irrelevant carbon footprint, because he knows the catastrophic manmade climate catastrophe is just a scam for we, not for he.

Most other countries would charge such Leadership with Treason.

How was this same treasonous, government failure actually reelected? #cheating?
