I agree — these interviews make it clear that Pierre has the qualities of a Prime Minister. Unfortunately, most people who rely on mainstream media never see them. Many in my age group, especially seniors, ended up supporting Carney. I’ve read The Globe and Mail daily for years and always considered it balanced, but not anymore. I get through it quickly now because it feels dominated by opinion pieces.
I’m surrounded by people who approve of what Carney is doing. I always respond by saying that when he actually accomplishes something that genuinely benefits Canada, I’ll be open to agreeing. Right now, though, it’s hard to ignore that we’re on a slippery slope toward socialism — and Carney appears to be working very hard to push us in that direction.
Most concerning to me is that Carney is pushing Canada closer and closer to becoming the 51st state. We need to remember two years ago Carney was packing his bags to move to NYC. Carney likes the U.S. and until he pulled the plug on the trade negotiations he had acquiesced to Trump at every turn. I expect now that the byelections are done with, Canada will be returning to the negotiating table sooner than later, and we will be giving away more than we are gaining. Pierre should have been out on the hustings of three byelections pushing just those facts.

We may or may not be fans of Polievre, but we do NOT know him, but many of the people who do know him have left his party. I am very unhappy with Larry Brock leaving to take a lower paid, less influential job with the Ontario Crown Prosecutor. I think this indicates more dissatisfaction with CPC leadership than any other issue. Brock is a good soldier though, so we will never hear his real reasons if they reflect badly on the party or leader, but his resignation is a huge issue. The team has lost it's superstar.

I couldn’t agree with you more. Pollievre is a very articulate intelligent man. He understands economics and finance ( mentored under Harper). He presents policies and a defined path forward, including relations with the US. And above all…he is Canadian in his values and the “values” of the Canadian people. Why people don’t see this is beyond me. And there’s a very good reason that Kory Teneyke isn’t backing the Conservative Party anymore. At least one that would be nationally beneficial. It would take the 10 million plus that choose not to vote in the last federal election. If you want change, you have to vote. Take these by elections, the voter turnout was around 50% so I assume most of them were left leaning. Where were the other 50% of voters in these ridings? I cant help but notice, regarding the renaming of places, that most major routes in Winnipeg, for instance, have received aboriginal names. On a road trip across the west, you could always tell if you were passing by or through a First Nations reservation. No signage needed. And that is bloody sad.
They've given indigenous names to our wards that no one can pronounce so they have to put the initial numbers - word 1, ward 2 etc. - in brackets so people in those wards know who their councilor is & if anything going on pertains to their area of the city. It's ridiculous!

Let’s face it Canada has always had a faction of our population that solely derive their sense of being Canadian by being anti American. You will recall that bridge was set to open the end of June, when Donald Trump announced that even though Canada and the U.S. had an agreement in place acknowledging that Canadian taxpayers paid for the construction of the bridge and therefore there would be no sharing of the net profits until such time as the Canadian taxpayers had been repaid, Trump demanded that instead Canada start sharing the net profits, 50-50 with the United states immediately. That is Canadian taxpayers who invested $6.4 BILLION would give half the profits to the United States even though they invested $0. This Carney described as a good deal, because now the bridge would be open. This was extortion, and Carney and Canada were the stoolies.
The Canadian news media should have been in an uproar. Instead, crickets! Poilievre protested, but his voice was ignored. This is Pierre's issue. He does not trust the legacy media, while the Liberals use them to their advantage. Until such time as Pierre embraces those he needs to get Canadian's attention, he will be running behind the Liberals.
Also, where was Pierre during these byelection campaigns? Not in the ridings that needed his presence. Oh, yes, he dropped by, but he should have spent every waking hour on the hustings helping his candidates. Instead he was travelling around Canada connecting with his base. They were not voting in these byelections. If Pierre wants to remain as the leader we need here in Canada, he needs to take more risks. He needs the legacy media, he needs to reach out where he is uncomfortable. He needs to reinvigorate his fighting spirit, and he needs to assert himself as the leader we need.

Brian believes someone else should lead the Conservatives and if we disagree he claims he's not the journalist we should be following. Well I disagree, but I will continue to take what I can from Brian's reporting. I don't regard politics as a sport as some do. I imagine those who do would have the Conservatives changing their policies without regard for their effectiveness just to win. That's the approach Doug Ford has taken as far as I can tell. The only suggestion I would have in the "do what it takes to win" column is to make it clear that a Conservative government under his leadership will maintain current media subsidies. It's bad policy but what’s worse is a Canadian media knowing that they owe 30 to 50 percent of their salaries to the Liberal party. It would take the 10 million plus that choose not to vote in the last federal election. If you want change, you have to vote. Take these by elections, the voter turnout was around 50% so I assume most of them were left leaning. Where were the other 50% of voters in these ridings? Why did over 10 million people not want to get out vote the liberals out?

I cant help but notice, regarding the renaming of places, that most major routes in Winnipeg, for instance, have received aboriginal names. On a road trip across the west, you could always tell if you were passing by or through a First Nations reservation. No signage needed. And that is bloody sad.
They've given indigenous names to our wards that no one can pronounce so they have to put the initial numbers - word 1, ward 2 etc. - in brackets so people in those wards know who their councilor is & if anything going on pertains to their area of the city. It's ridiculous!
They are free to hang out any sign they like on the Reservation. Is that the Government of Alberta’s job??? The correspondence the Liberal Party pumps out to supporters, would have one believe we are living in sunny times with a great economy, homes are being built, industry is growing, and the Conservatives are sore lying losers.

The problem is that Canadians are too lazy to properly inform themselves. Absolute sheep that can’t see past the mainstream narrative. Carney is a conman and Canadians have been willfully duped. It’s utterly pathetic and we are getting what we deserve.
This is not a Poilievre problem, it’s a completely uninformed, brainwashed, completely ignorant electorate problem. Unlike our U.S. cousins - Canadians on average pay very little attention to politics. They don’t have a clue what the roles of each level of government are nor do they have a clue as to what the role of the leader of the opposition plays in the Parliamentary system of government. If I had a dollar for every clown that said “ all Poilievre does is criticize “ or “ he offers no solutions, he just opposes everything “ - I would be a rich man. Canadians vote for politicians over how good looking they are - Trudeau received plenty of votes in his first two elections from women whose sole reason for voting for him was simply because he was attractive to them. It’s completely ridiculous. I have heard people say they won’t vote for Poilievre because they don’t like the sound of his voice or they cannot stand to look at him. Ask any of those people what he actually stands for, what his policies are - they don’t have a clue. It’s strikes me as odd that just over a year ago Poilievre was 20 points ahead in the polls, so somehow he appealed to Canadians at that time . Then, as now, he focused on the things that were dragging our country down - most of those issues caused by 10 years of terrible Liberal economic policy. He refused to pivot to Trump, instead he stayed on those issues as they really are what is driving our nation into poverty. However - Carney, aided by Trumps stupidity and arrogance played on many Canadian’s fears - the U.S. is out to get us, in an dangerous and divided world, we have “a rupture” in our relationship with the U.S. , we are at war blah blah blah. Let’s face it Canada has always had a faction of our population that solely derive their sense of being Canadian by being anti American. Trumps actions, amplified by Carney and the Liberals only brought out those feeling in more of the electorate. These people still don’t have a clue what Carney’s policies are - they don’t care - he just hits the mark by posturing himself as the tough guy to Trump. Then we have the additional issue with the MSM in Canada. Unlike the U.S. - we have no right wing media outlet to at least balance the narative and give the Conservatives a fair shake on coverage. The media in Canada is not even subtle in regards to how biased they are to the left - they don’t even try to hide it any longer. The electorate in Canada unfortunately are just not sophisticated enough to even sort that out. And that’s the crux of our problem. Stupid people voting for stupid ideas.

Your regular reader, Mark, is right -- you are piling on Pierre, and loyal supporters such as myself are disappointed. However, the reality is it is a disappointing situation. Who or what is responsible for this situation? That is the big question.
Pierre Poilievre is a hard worker, dedicated, quick witted, and principled, but I sense he is neither a polished nor astute politician. Now the Liberals on the other hand are! The Liberals know how to manipulate the public, and paint lipstick on a pig.
This all became quite evident on July 10, 2026 when Prime Minister Carney announced that he had reached a "good deal" with the United States regarding the Gordie Howe bridge. You will recall that bridge was set to open the end of June, when Donald Trump announced that even though Canada and the U.S. had an agreement in place acknowledging that Canadian taxpayers paid for the construction of the bridge and therefore there would be no sharing of the net profits until such time as the Canadian taxpayers had been repaid, Trump demanded that instead Canada start sharing the net profits, 50-50 with the United states immediately. That is Canadian taxpayers who invested $6.4 BILLION would give half the profits to the United States even though they invested $0. This Carney described as a good deal, because now the bridge would be open. This was extortion, and Carney and Canada were the stoolies.
The Canadian news media should have been in an uproar. Instead, crickets! Poilievre protested, but his voice was ignored. This is Pierre's issue. He does not trust the legacy media, while the Liberals use them to their advantage. Until such time as Pierre embraces those he needs to get Canadian's attention, he will be running behind the Liberals.
Also, where was Pierre during these byelection campaigns? Not in the ridings that needed his presence. Oh, yes, he dropped by, but he should have spent every waking hour on the hustings helping his candidates. Instead he was travelling around Canada connecting with his base. They were not voting in these byelections. If Pierre wants to remain as the leader we need here in Canada, he needs to take more risks. He needs the legacy media, he needs to reach out where he is uncomfortable. He needs to reinvigorate his fighting spirit, and he needs to assert himself as the leader we need.
Also, from my perch I see Mark Carney being handled very effectively by his political advisers. Who is advising Pierre? More importantly, is he listening?
I don't know what Carney's accomplished since he was confirmed as prime minister, but **Coffee and Covid** listed what Trump has accomplished this term. (We're not sure at this point about the Middle East part).
I realize much of this may not mean too much to those who don't follow US politics but it certainly shows what a conservative government can do in a year or so and sets and exaple for Canada's governments.

Brian believes someone else should lead the Conservatives and if we disagree he claims he's not the journalist we should be following. Well I disagree, but I will continue to take what I can from Brian's reporting. I don't regard politics as a sport as some do. I imagine those who do would have the Conservatives changing their policies without regard for their effectiveness just to win. That's the approach Doug Ford has taken as far as I can tell. The only suggestion I would have in the "do what it takes to win" column is to make it clear that a Conservative government under his leadership will maintain current media subsidies. It's bad policy but what’s worse is a Canadian media knowing that they owe 30 to 50 percent of their salaries to the Liberal party. With the collapse of the NDP and with a media beholden to the Liberals I can’t imagine we'll ever see another Conservative government. In the meantime Poilievre is the best we've got.

As I see it, the Cons need a new strategist team not a new leader...the Libs obviously have a better team!
