Short answer is “No he doesn’t want a deal “ nothing in his behaviour or that of the Liberal government suggests any reasonable diplomacy and has been actually antagonistic. The increasing attacks on Pierre also suggest he’s still the greatest threat to them. They’re investing a lot to convince the public that Pierre needs to go which is exactly what shouldn’t happen in my opinion.
A deal woudl actually help Canadian business by stabilizing things at least on the "devil you know" level. The laughable thing is the countless pundits, possibly Lilley and Laine are the exceptions, that believe the "Canada is facing economic uncertainty" crap. There IS NO ECONOMIC UNCERTAINTY. We know exactly what is going to happen: the worst possible option for small and medium business will ALWAYS be the choice of Carney and the Liberals. The goal is to make you either poor or ultra rich. And if you aren't a Laurentian you aren't part of the latter group. Until we evict Carney, we will only face a worsening situation for actual tax paying Canadians (those NOT paid out of the tax rolls). The last likely peaceful solution is Alberta voting authority to separate. That is the only thing that MIGHT reset voting to actually represent everyone equally in the country. I suspect Carney will take the pyrrhic victory and when that happens we will end up the 51st State unless the Dems can steal the next election and then all of North America will be taking up arms. Its about to be a ride.
I can't remember hearing anything about progress or stumbling blocks in the trade negotiations. Did any tariff talks happen last summers and, if so, why did they fail? When US-Mexico talks started a month ago, there was a ludicrous CBC article announcing US-Canada talks were starting as well. They weren't.
I watched a couple speeches and some interviews with Jamieson Greer on a recent negotiating trip to Europe. He knows his portfolio very well, and lays out very clearly, what is, and what isn't on the table.
I don't see a way out of this mess for Canadians unless Alberta separates; it maybe a much needed wake up call for the rest of the country. I'm a conservative boomer from Ontario that spends 6 months of the year (3 months in the fall and 3 months in the winter) in Phoenix. The life style here is both affordable and amazing and I always regret returning home to a declining, unaffordable province/country for half the of the year.
Sending prayers to Dr. Peterson and his family. We need his voice now more than ever before. Democracy is on the edge of a cliff!
This is complete brain-washing. ICE is arresting people who are in USA illegally. What does canada do with people who are in the country illegally? And what do canadians want to be done about them?
“If Canada wants to agree that we can have some level of higher tariff on them while they open up their markets to us on things like dairy and other things, then that’s a helpful conversation,” Greer told CBC at the time. ----- Mr Greer PLEASE expand your ask - poulty, eggs, beef, banking, liquor, smoked brisket, Kansas City ribs, wine
Unfortunately as the Rt Hon PM Mark Carney announced to Canadians on Sunday - our relationship with the U.S is ruptured, so Canada needs to now align with the EU, China and the New World Order 😬
Not sure that I would want to align with China - perhaps limit that to selling them some of our resources. As for aligning with either the EU or the US, I think I would prefer the EU. At least they are in favour of some regulation of EI technology and media outreach. Exactly what the tech oligarchs don’t want. But don’t just take my word for it - just read the new 25 point manifesto of US tech company Palantir. It outlines a new existence under government control, surveillance and techno feudalism. I definitely don’t want any part of that.
Why can’t businesses keep all tax money from businesses and not send it to Ottawa? Put it in a special fund that Carney can’t touch. Ever hear of maid? I do not believe in it but for one person.
Carney does not want a deal. He is content to convince canadians that orangeman bad is their problem. It's a darned shame. Canada could be great again.. but the chances of that are getting very slim.
Maybe Carneys new team will come up with something. Trump has to win..#1. And as you say we can not afford 25% tarriffs.
These tarriffs are not making his "people" any richer. They feel the cost of living just like cdns ..so where is the tarriff $$ going?
I dont think it would matter who was PM .. tarriffs are here to stay. So work around them until hes gone..carney gas been preparing us for that with his speech about how Canada needs to go to war. The lego man. Symbolic.
Wow, this feels like ww11, after the fact. I can only imagine.
Tariffs, of course, do not make people instantly richer. They are a way to bring manufacturing and investment back to the usa. Since the 1980's, america has off-shored most of its industry. The people will become richer when there are good paying jobs, and quality products made in the usa. Don't expect a miracle in 14 months in office.
Trump is not the problem so focusing on him prevents you from seeing THE problem. Who runs this country without ever being elected to the position does not have the electorate at heart. God bless.
Verna....my life won't change if canadians continue to think that trump is the #1 problem for canadians. He's been in office for 14 months...canada has been on a downhill slide for over 10 years..look at the numbers. And also look at how many of your really successful businesses and people are leaving canada for good.
Seriously Verna! You sound like you just got off the CBC site or I’m missing your sarcasm! You have it backwards. The US is Canadas biggest trading partner.
Well google those numbers there Mike. Mexico is ahead of us..sorry unless their wrong. I didn't just make it up from cbc. We might be their largest consumer...buyer.. not sure will check that....ya i must sound like a turnip ..
its a free damn country Mikey, .my dad fought for it.

I agree with you 100% Equally Canadian. I am sorry to say I was once a proud Canadian, but no more.
And that, Karen, is why I will vote in the affirmative in the separation referendum in October.
..can't blame anyone for that..but keep the pride we once shared handy..cuz ya never know..
It's buried down there somewhere I hope.🤞

Karen..let me know if this link works..
It is...and gotta feeling we're ALL gonna have a boost of that pride real soon..stay tuned...

" It's all just made up".. thanks, Rosemary, for that confirmation...now get back to looking inside yourself..and shaddap!!
Because Pollievre makes too much common sense and smart economics to benefit Canadians has always been the Conservative’s M.O.
🙏for Mr Peterson.

I’m sure Phoenix is really nice - unless you get detained and locked up by ICE. Other than that it’s really great.
This is complete brain-washing. ICE is arresting people who are in USA illegally. What does canada do with people who are in the country illegally? And what do canadians want to be done about them?
Yeah, I’m sure the families of Renee Good and Alex Pretti agree with that statement.
I think ICE is doing a Pretti Good job.
Please go back to the CBC as ICE locks up criminals not law abiding citizens and visitors! So sad you have TDS!
I'm not sure why people have a problem complying with the law.

The best way to get a deal would be to cooperate, and there is no one in the Liberal Government in a cooperative mood.
Outflank the Americans by giving them more than they expect.
35 per cent of our economy endures some type of protectionism. That would be a splendid place to start, if we were serious.
Why can’t businesses keep all tax money from businesses and not send it to Ottawa? Put it in a special fund that Carney can’t touch. Ever hear of maid? I do not believe in it but for one person.
I like the way you are thinking.

So yes go ahead and insult us Trump, and treat us like dogs.
Cant see it! Cheers
