Time for Mark Carney to stand and deliver
He's made lots of vague promises, some of them contradictory

It was nice to see the spectacle of King Charles opening Parliament this week, but now it’s time to get down to work. As I point out in my most recent column for the Toronto Sun, it’s time for a little less conversation and a little more action.
Now that I’ve got that Elvis song stuck in your head consider that it’s been more than five months since the House of Commons sat and nine months since they did any meaningful work.
With prorogation, a trade war, a Liberal leadership race and a federal election, you may have forgotten that between the end of September and December there was no government business moving through the House. The Trudeau Liberals refused to release documents in the Green Slush Fund Scandal, they were found to have breached Parliamentary privilege and no business too place for months because they refused to inform MPs of what happened in that billion-dollar boondoggle.
Suffice it to say, there is a lot of work to get done.
Carney dumps Trudeau’s kinda tradition…
It being Wednesday, MPs will be in party caucus meetings all morning and then Question Period will take place at 2pm. An interesting story from Canadian Press on how Carney won’t continue Justin Trudeau’s tradition of taking every question on Wednesdays.
This is something Trudeau started in 2017; no other PM had done this before.
As a citizen, it makes no difference in my life. As a media person, this just means fewer clipable moments. Wednesdays with Justin were veritable clip fests as he answered every question from every leader and backbench MP.
Speaking of Trudeau, your eyes did not deceive you, and it was not AI. He really did wear green suede Adidas running shoes with his suit to the Speech from the Throne. Was this his attempt to flip the bird at Carney, who insists that people who work in his PMO dress professionally?

Donald Trump has sent us the bill…
Maybe you’ve heard that the 51st state talk is over. That’s the message from Trump’s Ambassador to Canada, Pete Hoekstra. Ambassador Pete, who I will be sitting down with in the coming days, has been telling anyone who will listen that the 51st state talk is over.
Late yesterday, Donnie brought back the 51st state talk when he revealed via Truth Social how much we will have to pay for the Golden Dome missile defence system.
“I told Canada, which very much wants to be part of our fabulous Golden Dome System, that it will cost $61 Billion Dollars if they remain a separate, but unequal, Nation, but will cost ZERO DOLLARS if they become our cherished 51st State. They are considering the offer!”
Let’s see what comes next.
What to read today…
Sylvain Charlebois, AKA the Food Professor, is writing about the latest in the bread price fixing scandal. Let’s just say justice moves slowly in Canada, but could you be in for some cash from this latest settlement?
The Sun’s Joe Warmington is facing complaints from people who like to cover their faces and scream about intifada. See, Joe wrote about a guy appearing at the Walk With Israel as part of the counter protest and he was sporting a grenade and now they don’t like Joe pointing it out. Their claim is that it was just a keychain and Joe’s racist for saying it looked like a grenade, which it did.
At National Post, Tristin Hopper is writing about the imminent return of the Sir John A. statue. No, the statue didn’t go anywhere, it’s just been boarded up by plywood for about five years after protests started targeting statues in the wake of George Floyd. Seems saner heads are finally prevailing.
John Ivison points out that the throne speech didn’t have any of Trudeau’s woke virtue signalling, and that’s a good thing.
Looks like he just did…
Carney is like a UPS driver, his truck is filled BIS/WEF packages to deliver, what happens if his truck breaks down..?
