I think the move is not to defund the CBC per se, but place their funding in a cultural and news funding pool that is distributed by some kind of polling mechanism of citizens. Maybe even a game show where people present Canadian media projects for funding. One option could be to pay down the deficit instead. The CBC probably won't have much success in competing
I think a fair portion of swing voters have positive feelings towards it. The Liberals also seem to find it useful as a wedge issue to energize progressives who might prefer to vote NDP
Shifting their funding to a citizen controlled pool defeats the political usefulness that the Liberals can wring out of it and may be seen pretty positively by centrist voters

The CBC is self-serving and abusive. I was quite disgusted that the "public broadcaster" seemed unable to cover the important work of the citizen's initiative, "The National Citizen's Inquiry." This group held hearings in 8 Canadian cities, focusing on what happened to people as a result of the government Covid policies. Since the government itself could not be bothered to evaluate the impact of their Covid policies, the NCI research is a vital resource. Most people I know are not aware of it, and I guess that was the intention of the CBC and the government,s but it is a shocking disservice to the Canadian public. I completely gave up on watching or accessing the CBC after this neglectful and politically driven decision to ignore the NCI. Just outrageous in my view.
If the Commie Broadcast Corporation covered the NCI, it would have to report the TRUTH about the Plandemic, its failed policies which were not based on science and the irreparable harm it caused the whole country. This cannot be allowed to happen as the Marxists in Ottawa just agreed to the WHO and it's new Plandemic Treaty. One other thing that baffles me about the MSM in Canada is this - during the last election 43% of Canadians voted Liberal, 41% voted Conservative and the other 16% voted NDP or Green. So if the Conservatives are garnering practically the same amount of public support as the Liberals, why are all 3 TV MSM outlets in Canada all concentrating their coverage to appeal only the Liberal voter or the Liberal leaning voter ? Essentially you have 3 networks trying to divide 43% of the pie while a second huge slice, pretty much just as big, is sitting there unserviced., being completely ignored ? I look at Global and wonder “ Who are the idiots running that place” ? They are dead last in the news ratings yet they are steadfastly going after the same audience as the other 2 and coming in last, To me, it does not take a genius to say “ wait a minute, if we follow the example of FOX NEWS in the USA and court the 41% of the population who vote Conservative- we will A): have that whole market to ourselves and B) our ratings will skyrocket and we will draw in a lot more in advertising revenue. Any serious business person who was worth his salt would not be content to sit dead last in the ratings by using the exact same game plan as your competitors and going after the same piece of market share. There is a whole pie out there - and a huge segment looking for something they are not getting now. People have made billions giving society things it needs but very few have been successful standing pat and coming in last. It really boggles my mind.
