The sick campaign by Canada's left to defend Kneecap...
Some MPs are defending a group that once told their audience to kill their local MPs.
This was originally part of Thursday’s email blast newsletter, but this needs it’s own post and more attention given what I’m seeing with MPs trying to defend Kneecap.
This story is so ridiculous it will have me defending a Liberal MP and Parliamentary Secretary and explaining how insidious the pro-Hamas crowd are in Canadian politics as they try to use this Kneecap story to advance their cause and harm others.
Let’s break it down.
Most of you will be wondering who or what Kneecap are.
They are a hip-hop/rap trio out of Belfast, Northern Ireland who were recently banned from Canada for among other things, statements and actions deemed to be in support of terrorism. In fact, one of the band members was facing charges for waving a Hezbollah flag on stage in London last year.
That should be enough to have someone denied entry into Canada, they aren’t citizens, they have no right to be here and an ally lays terrorism charges. Well, the charges were recently dropped over a technicality and now the activists who have supported the Hamas rallies up and down our streets these last two years are agitating for Kneecap to be allowed entry into Canada.
In the House of Commons, NDP MP Jenny Kwan and Green MP Elizabeth May both stood to question the government on Kneecap and insinuate that it wasn’t really policy but a rogue Liberal MP named Vince Gasparro who invented government policy.
After that, Kwan took to X directly calling Gasaparro a rogue MP and releasing a letter sent to Immigration Minister Lena Diab.
So the narrative being pushed is that this is a rogue MP who made up government policy on the fly rather than a government sanctioned announcement. I’ll explain in a minute why no MP should be standing up for Kneecap, but first here’s why that idea of Gasparro going rogue makes zero sense.
An MP who has never been around politics might make the mistake of speaking for the government when they don’t, but there is zero chance Gasparro did this. The guy spent several years working for the PMO under Jean Chretien, he served as Principal Secretary to Toronto Mayor John Tory for several years and he has senior leadership positions in the private sector.
A guy like this doesn’t go rogue like that, guys like Gasparro are too careful for a move like that. There is no doubt a treasure trove of emails, texts, WhatsApp messages and more from inside the government discussing his video announcement before it was made.
The NDP, and Elizabeth May are all in on one side of the Israel-Hamas dispute and it’s the wrong side. Gasparro, representing the riding of Eglinton-Lawrence with a significant Jewish community is on the otherside.
This fight is about defending a terror supporting Irish rap group because they support the right cause (Hamas) and attacking Gasparro because he doesn’t. It’s sick that MPs, and some inside the federal Liberals, would take this stance.
This is who they are backing by defending Kneecap.
“The only good Tory is a dead Tory. Kill your local MP,” one of the band members said in 2023.
When video of that incident resurfaced and created controversy earlier this year the band apologized but didn’t to the families of two British MPs who were murdered in recent years. Conservative MP David Amess was stabbed to death in 2021 and Labour MP Jo Cox was shot and stabbed in 2016.
“To the Amess and Cox families, we send our heartfelt apologies, we never intended to cause you hurt,” Kneecap said in a statement after video of the call to violence caused controversy.
Of course, they later said that they had no regrets and calling on their audience members to kill their MP was just a joke.
Why are MPs defending a band that not only supports terrorist groups banned in Canada, but has also called for MPs to be killed?
The members of Kneecap are not Canadian citizens, they have no right to come here and CBSA officers can deny them entry for any reason. I’d say that supporting terrorism and putting out calls for murdering elected officials is a good enough reason to keep them out.
A couple of final points.
The band’s name, Kneecap, comes from the punishment that the Irish Republican Army would deliver to anyone who crossed them. The punishment consists of putting a gun to the side of the kneecap and shooting through the leg causing serious damage.
One of the band members, J. J. Ó Dochartaigh, goes by the stage name DJ Próvaí. That stage name is a salute to the Provisional IRA, the military wing of the Irish Republican Army.
These guys support and glorify terrorism in all forms.
In fact, singer Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, AKA Mo Chara, was charged with terrorism offences in the UK for waving a Hezbollah flag at a concert last year. The charges were dropped, not because they weren’t true but because the police laid them too late.
Kneecap doesn’t belong in Canada and MPs shouldn’t be standing up for them.
NDP is doing a rebranding. Two choices here: be a classic Labour party, or go super-woke. Judging by MP Kwan's statement, they chose super-woke. Supporting terrorism and all that.
The Green Party here has a long history of any-semitism. Just google Monika Schaefer. Elizabeth May is a joke, and she should not be taken seriously. Compare this contretemps with the hysteria over allowing Sam Feucht to perform last summer. Who is actually vile and disgusting? I think the Irish group is the obvious answer.
