I spend a lot of time thinking about the future of media in this country. I’ve been in the business for 25 years and things aren’t going great, but then again, they haven’t been going great for a long time.
Peter Menzies has had an interesting media career working at small papers in B.C. at the Calgary Sun and then Calgary Herald where he ended up as publisher and editor-in-chief. He later was appointed to the CRTC, Canada’s broadcast regulator.
You can follow and read Peter at his own Substack, The Rewrite.
Recently he was before the Commons Heritage Committee were he was critical of the current subsidy situation and offered alternatives.
We had a long chat about his ideas, my thoughts and what government could do that wouldn’t screw everything up.
Grab a coffee or drink of your choice and enjoy.
Oh, and did you know there is now a Substack TV app? You can watch this on your big screen if you want.
