Poilievre offers bail solutions, Carney is dismissive and why are MPs standing up for Kneecap...
Conservative twist on bail not jail takes centre stage in the House.
The Conservatives are adopting new tactics in this latest session of Parliament and one of them was on full display on Thursday. Rather than just criticize the minority Carney government, Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives say they want to offer solutions.
To that end, the Conservatives introduced Bill C-242 also known as the Jail Not Bail Act. It was put forward by Arpan Khanna, the Conservative MP for Oxford, just outside of London, Ontario.
The Conservatives have encouraged the Liberals to pass the bill, to steal their ideas and on Thursday the House debated a Conservative motion to fast track the bail reform bill to committee for study.
During Question Period, Poilievre questioned Carney repeatedly on bail reform, gave real examples of bail gone wrong and called on the Liberals to adopt this bill.
It’s an interesting tactic for a number of reasons.
First off, we know that crime and bail are big issues with the public and polling would show that voters trust the Conservatives more on this issue than the Liberals. In approaching it in the way that they are though, the Conservatives can look like they are trying to cooperate with the Liberals who of course want nothing to do with this bill.
The reason the Liberals don’t want to support this bill, even though it has many good measures, is that they’re working on their own bill and will release it sometime this month. The Conservatives know this and get to own the issue in the media, get some headlines, and get the public talking about the issue.
When the Liberals come out with their own bill, the Conservatives can take credit for forcing the Liberals to act on this issue - which is true - and claim that the bill doesn’t go far enough - which it certainly won’t.
And now, a word from our sponsor…
Did you know Canadians pay $20 more per case of 24 cans of beer than Americans? That’s because Canada has the highest beer tax in the G7. 46% of the price of beer is government taxation. And every April 1st, the federal government automatically hikes that tax, without a vote. These undemocratic increases drive up costs and make life less affordable. It’s time to stop the automatic beer tax escalator and give Parliament back control. Visit HereForBeer.ca to email your MP and demand change today.

Carney can’t resist the anti-American line of attack…
In one of his responses to Poilievre on bail, Carney tried to imply that the Conservatives were importing their bail reform ideas from the U.S. and he was bringing in pure Canadian ones.
“The government, which has been in place for six months,” Carney said, “has undertaken comprehensive consultations with law enforcement, with the provinces, based on evidence - is bringing forward the toughest bail legislation and sentencing legislation that will work. Not one imported from the United States.”
Here’s why that is laughable, the bail reform legislation that the Liberals brought in back in 2019 was largely based off of ideas coming out of American academia. Jurisdictions like New York State also brought in bail reform that followed the same release by default policies as Canada.
Just like it led to horrible results in this country, it led to horrible results in New York. Governor Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, reversed many of the 2019 reforms in 2023 but we kept them.
It’s Carney’s Liberals, not Poilievre’s Conservatives who imported failed American policies.
Lefties love them some terror supporting rappers…
For the love of me, I don’t know why any MP would stand up in defence of the Irish hip hop trio Kneecap. These are the people who famously encouraged their fans to kill their local MPs at a concert in 2023.
They support banned terror groups like Hezbollah and Hamas and incite violence. They don’t belong here, they have no right to enter but NDP MP Jenny Kwan is standing up for them and so is Green MP Elizabeth May.
The band was slated to play Toronto and Vancouver this months in concerts that have now been cancelled.
Some background.
“The only good Tory is a dead Tory. Kill your local MP,” one of the band members said in 2023.
When video of that incident resurfaced and created controversy earlier this year the band apologized but didn’t to the families of two British MPs who were murdered in recent years. Conservative MP David Amess was stabbed to death in 2021 and Labour MP Jo Cox was shot and stabbed in 2016.
“To the Amess and Cox families, we send our heartfelt apologies, we never intended to cause you hurt,” Kneecap said in a statement after video of the call to violence caused controversy.
Of course, they later said that they had no regrets and calling on their audience members to kill their MP was just a joke.
About two weeks ago, Liberal MP Vince Gasparro released a video stating that the Government of Canada was banning Kneecap from entering Canada.
The band responded by saying that they have not been informed of this, they threatened legal action and now the same people who have been supporting the Hamas loving protests in our streets for the past two years are coming to the defence of Kneecap.
Here’s what went down in Question Period.
Why are MPs defending a band that not only supports terrorist groups banned in Canada, but has also called for MPs to be killed?
The members of Kneecap are not Canadian citizens, they have no right to come here and CBSA officers can deny them entry for any reason. I’d say that supporting terrorism and putting out calls for murdering elected officials is a good enough reason to keep them out.
A couple of final points.
The band’s name, Kneecap, comes from the punishment that the Irish Republican Army would deliver to anyone who crossed them. The punishment consists of putting a gun to the side of the kneecap and shooting through the leg causing serious damage.
One of the band members, J. J. Ó Dochartaigh, goes by the stage name DJ Próvaí. That stage name is a salute to the Provisional IRA, the military wing of the Irish Republican Army.
These guys support and glorify terrorism in all forms.
In fact, singer Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, AKA Mo Chara, was charged with terrorism offences in the UK for waving a Hezbollah flag at a concert last year. The charges were dropped, not because they weren’t true but because the police laid them too late.
Kneecap doesn’t belong in Canada and MPs shouldn’t be standing up for them.
Libs don't want bail reform, nor affordable food, nor to address housing, nor reduced immigration..... they don't want to nor intend to fix anything, because everything is going exactly as planned by their WEF masters .They want crime and chaos to push their anti gun agenda, and to bring Canadians to their knees broke and full dependence on the government.
I certainly agree that the band Kneecap should be denied entry into Canada, any person or group that openly encourages followers to commit murder is nothing short of a terrorist, I do condone free speech but these individuals, but this crosses the line, and they have to be censored and banned from bringing them into Canada, and I don't understand Jenny Kwan and Elizabeth May standing up them !
