Mark Carney set to choose Sweden over USA and other allies...
Canada looks set to buy the Gripen fighter jet from Saab, but what does that mean for the F-35?
I’ve been covering the fight over the F-35 for close to 20 years. Canada has been part of the program to develop and build the F-35, originally called the Joint Strike Fighter Program, in 1997.
Here we are in 2026 and we can’t even come to an agreement to buy the 88 planes that we’ve already committed to.
For the last year, the Carney government has been leading a politically motivated “review” of the F-35 deal. This is all driven in response to Donald Trump even though this program predates Trump being President the first time by close to 20 years and the first delivery of jets will happen as he leaves office.
But own the libs, I mean the Americans, right?
In one of my columns for the Toronto Sun today, I detailed the split in cabinet over the F-35 and the freezing out of the military.
Give the column a read.
Mark Carney’s every changing messaging…
I touched on this in a video here at the newsletter over the weekend. Mark Carney changes his message depending on who his audience is and where he is speaking.
He says one thing to the Americans, another to Canadians and yet another when he is in Europe.
After I did the first video, Carney doubled down on his comments about rupture and more.
Thus, another video.
Carney killing the auto industry…
Maybe Ontario will need to threaten to separate to get the Carney government to stop trying to kill our auto industry.
Whatever you think of him, Carney is taking the issue of Alberta separatism seriously. He’s told his cabinet to do the same, whether they are is a point of debate, but he’s told them.
Yet Carney’s disaster of an Industry Minister, Melanie Joly, is out there trying to kill off our auto industry in Canada by inviting China in to build. Chinese vehicle plants have been a disaster in Brazil and Hungary so I don’t know why we would invite them in here as Joly is doing.
Unless of course, the answer is the same as why she is against the F-35, she’d rather not do business with an American.
Read as I explain here why Joly and her plans are so wrong, or watch the video below.

Unbelievably stupid if we go with the Swedish fighter!!
