The problem with Ford(and any other replacement options) is people always talk about who they would appeal to vs Pierre. But they never talk about who they would drive away. No conservative west of Thunder Bay would support Ford.

The government funded media would like to convince us Poilievre is floundering because four turncoat conservatives were lured over to the Liberals. That says more about their integrity than anything about Poilievre. Conservative members still strongly support Poilievre.

Ford is hugely unpopular with the conservative base. His treachery against Poilievre during 2025 election campaign nailed the door shut on any chance he'll ever be chosen as party leader. The bulk of conservative support is in the west. And Ford is hated here.

Ford knew he was going to speak against Poilievre. That's why ge called the Ontario provincial election early. Haven't liked him since he started that crap.

That's exactly when Ford came to my attention in a serious way. Doug Ford is all in for what benefits Doug Ford.

Really I’m sick of Conservatives helping the Liberal cause of trying to get rid of Pierre by even entertaining these ideas. The record share of the vote is because of Pierre. I can tell you that I personally only started actually donating what I could for the first time in years because of Pierre and would stop donating if the party can’t keep the one leader that is clearly a threat to the Liberals. And Doug Ford is a Liberal! I refuse to vote for him now so I definitely wouldn’t at the Federal level.

I agree with you, but keep in mind that the people who want to dump Poilievre are Liberals, and their paid for lackeys. Since last fall when Liberals realized that nothing was getting better in Canada under the new PM, there have been daily hit pieces on the leader of the opposition. Meanwhile PM Doolittle continues to walk on water. The Liberal party got 43% of the votes in the last election, but they make 90% of the noise in Canada, not unlike their Democrat pals south of the border. Canadians are not stupid.

Canadians are not stupid? Never heard that before. Why else would we be 11 years deep in globalist led chaos, with a bare minimum of three more years under the hood? Mind you, if you are a liberal Liberal, I can see how you would feel that way.

Also, because he is a Buffoon! I would vote for many other conservatives over Doug!! He’s also not really a Conservative.

Ford is proving himself as unfit for leadership --- period.

If he ever becomes conservative leader western separatists gain thousands of followers.

Don’t think many people outside of Ontario would even seriously consider Ford as Leader. His take that Saskatchewan and Alberta should stop oil & gas shipments to the USA didn’t fly well with anyone with a functioning brain.

The Modern Mantuamaker's avatar

I don't think that many *in* Ontario would, either. He's only kept winning because of circumstances and there's been no real alternative of substance. In a CPC leadership race, there's be multiple people of higher calibre he'd be running against. One million more Ontarians came out for Pierre in the general election than for Dougie in the provincial one.

Ford has run his course with Ontarions. His numbers are falling. He likes Toronto more than he likes Ontario. He should take a run at the mayor's job and open the province up to an actual conservative instead of Ford the red conservative! He's done as premier!

GAWD!!! The only person less popular than Doug Ford in the west is Carney and its pretty close race. Ford would be the END of the federal conservatives. Their base lives in the west and he couldn't get elected assistant dog catcher out here.

Doug Ford is only premier of Ontario due to the lack of a even semi-strong opposition. He has not been an effective premier. He was going to overhaul our healthcare -- still in crisis. too many Ontarians do not even have access to a family doctor, and the waiting at ER is a shameful. Our education system is in shambles. Student attendance is appalling, lack of good teachers, and then most importantly the curriculum which he said he would overhaul is still not netting results. Now, we could look at our transportation -- again lacking. His solution expand airport in downtown Toronto. Yes, he is serious! Homelessness, still an issue. Affordable housing -- still waiting. We can now purchase wine at the local corner store, but otherwise, what has that man done?

Doug Ford has been premier of Ontario for going on eight years now, and life in Ontario has not improved. Running against him should be a cakewalk for any reasonably strong opposition. The Liberals are regrouping--watch out Dougie!

Pierre Poilievre has not been in a position to make changes, but he has made numerous policy suggestions, which in fact have been adopted by the Carney Liberals. Dougie's suggestions, so far -- oh yes, the wine and beer availability. Such a record. Pierre Poilievre vs Doug Ford -- no comparison.

I couldn't agree more! He needs somebody to really give him a run for his money. Everything in Ontario is in serious trouble and he goes out and buys himself a private plane with taxpayer's money! Why?

He numbers are falling off severely and I believe it's time for him to step aside and call it a career!

If something doesn't happen, I will be declining my vote. I will not vote for him again!

#1. Unhealthy.

#2 you correctly state his tme has passed

#3 optics. Doing dumb things never really helps politically. Many times over is silly.

#4 Doug is a real person for sure, but with no political opposition he was easily re elected.

#5. #1 will catch up to him. He will

Not run again.

Cseitz's avatar

Of course he won’t leave now. He just purchased a private plane for himself 🤣🤣

Feckless Ford the self-dealer isn’t a Conservative. His demonstrated love of all Liberal politicians is a deal breaker!

Geoff Moore's avatar

Because we won't vote for him. Ford obviously has PM aspirations.

Ford would not be much different than Carney. He's not a real conservative. He wants to be one of the elites. Why would any conservative ever seriously consider him? Ford has abandoned conservative principles in favour of big government, authoritarian-style lockdowns, and excessive spending.

Ford supported medical tyranny. Ontarians were betrayed by Ford’s pandemic response, which was overly restrictive and aligned with Trudeau. He imposed some of the longest and most severe lockdowns in North America. Lockdowns, as it turned out, were a terrible strategy that did far more harm than good. Ford fired principled MPP Roman Baber from the PC caucus after Baber published an open letter arguing that the lockdowns were doing more harm than good. In 2021, Ford granted police arbitrary powers to stop people and vehicles to enforce stay-at-home orders, as well as closing playgrounds. This led to backlash, forcing a quick reversal. Ford imposed strict measures only to apologize days later, creating a perception of chaotic leadership.

Ford is a tax and spender. He did not solve the spending problem he inherited from provincial Liberals. The Fraser Institute says that Ford failed to deliver meaningful tax reductions and maintained high, non-competitive tax rates inherited from the Liberals. Tax revenue as a share of GDP actually climbed under Ford, rising to over $9,400 per Ontarian. He expands government programs, rather than privatizing them.

Ford is too friendly with the federal Liberals. Conservative MP Jamil Jivani labelled Ford a "hype man" for the Liberal party and accused him of sabotaging federal Conservative election efforts. Ford was criticized for campaigning for provincial re-election at the same time federal Conservatives were fighting for power. He prioritized his own political survival over the party's national prospects. I could go on, but you get the idea. He is a terrible politician. I liked his brother, who was a friendly guy, but not him.

You asked for my thoughts. Well, I think Doug Ford is a buffoon! A Liberal buffoon, dressed in blue. You Ontario centre of the universe people sing his praises, but he is still a buffoon!
