Far left violence strikes again...

Plus the war in Iran ramps up, Carney still isn't telling the truth on the Gordie Howe Bridge and more.

Last week, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio convened a conference on political violence and terrorism.

Specifically, it was about violence from the far left.

Today in New York City, we saw another example of that as a man set off a fire at a federal building in Manhattan. Andrew Arrabaca, a military veteran, was taken into custody almost immediately after setting off the blaze.

According to various reports, Arrabaca had “anti-ICE” material on him along with airsoft guns, fireworks and gasoline.

The United States has seen far too much violence from the far left including the shooting and murder of United Health CEO Brian Thompson by Luigi Mangione or shooting of Charlie Kirk by Tyler Robinson.

In Canada, we’ve seen attacks like the 2022 storming of a worksite for the Coastal Gaslink pipeline. Since October 7, 2023, we’ve seen calls for violence by left wing supporters of Hamas and Hezbollah including specific attacks like the one in Toronto in November 2025 or the violence in Montreal in November 2024.

The political left, more than the right, has accepted the idea that the ends justify the means.

If you haven’t listened to Rubio’s speech to open the conference, give yourself the time to do so.

Iran war ramps back up…

The United States is pounding Iran once again, this time especially hard, after two members of the United States military were killed in Jordan. Earlier today, military officials confirmed that 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19 were killed by an Iranian strike.

I don’t know the American protocol, but I assume it is similar to the Canadian one. In the Canadian military, anyone being deployed has to pose like the ones above so that the military can release your photo in case you are killed in the line of duty.

In the Canadian Armed Forces, these photos are called hockey cards.

My heart breaks for the families of Lt. James Feehan and Pvt. Gonzales.

Of course, what does everyone look to once there is an escalation in a conflict in the Middle East. Right now, the price is heading up once again after dropping significantly.

As I write, West Texas Intermediate, the North American oil benchmark is selling at $82.43. That’s down from a high of more than $112 early April and a low since the war started of $68 in early July.

Western Canadian Select meanwhile is just over $70 after a high of $100 in early April and a wartime low of $56 at the start of July.

Iran has decided not to abide by the ceasefire they signed with the United States, I don’t think this will end well for them. Not that I expect the Americans to stick around to force regime change, but I do think they will inflict more damage.

Carney’s changing narrative on the Gordie Howe Bridge…

So, are we splitting the revenue with the Americans on the Gordie Howe Bridge or are we keeping it all to pay down the debt that Canada incurred to build the bridge?

It depends on what version of Mark Carney you are listening to.

I wrote about this here the other day, and today followed up on it in a column for the Toronto Sun.

The truth is that Carney isn’t being truthful.

I asked his office to clarify his statements compared to the public reporting by Bloomberg and The Globe and Mail and they declined to answer.

Trump is talking extra tariffs on Canada for the forest fire smoke. Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno is talking about seizing assets and denying visas to Mark Carney and Doug Ford.

I’m sorry, but this is all nuts.

If you don’t want to believe me, look at what Harrison Faulkner from Juno said on the issue of whether on Ontario has cut firefighting.

It uncovered charities refusing to acknowledge atrocities committed by Hamas, while ostracizing and even dismissing workers who dared speak up about human rights violations and blatant antisemitism, including within the organizations themselves. EiGHT, made up of former NGO leaders, is calling for transparency and oversight for charities whose discrimination goes largely unscrutinized, despite raking in billions of dollars in donations and funding.
