Brian, bottom line: Do you think Carney wants a deal for Canada? What has Carney done since he took office that is going to turn Canada around?

I don't think he wants a deal.

I would argue he wants a deal. Any deal. He will give away the farm, for sure. Remember just before deciding to run to be Canada's Prime Minister, Carney was packing his bags to move to NYC. He likes the U.S. and would be comfortable with the 51st state designation.

Brian Lilley aren't you Canadian? Humour/meming is the real Cdn sport not hockey imho. I agree with Marc Nixon....its not that you're too "rational" its that you make too much $ to relate to the average Cdn so you are missing the point. Un-brainwashed Canadians need to vent about Carney and the memes offer stress release. Come on down from your ivory tower and roll around on the No Frills floor with the rest of us while we cry/laugh about whats happening to our country at the hands of our fellow countrymen 😭😭😭

The elbows up crowd just love it. Carney and Ford know this so are more than happy to continue this to get elected. Imagine if Trump said we were "at war"? I despise Trump but let's be real if he said that the elbows up crowd would be up in arms. For me I will continue to shop at places like No-Frills and buy want I want to save money even if it's dare I say American. The elites preach to us to boycott American goods and travel i. Canada yet they do the opposite. We are doomed under Liberal rule which after the recent bi-elections makes me realize we may have another 10yrs of this

The reality is the United States is throwing its military might around the globe, so if some Canadians fear we are next, it is forgivable. Do I personally believe the U.S. will invade? No, but they are definitely using their economic force as threatened by Trump on January 7, 2025. Prior to the recently announced counter tariffs, Mark Carney had acquiesced to every Trump demand. Most recently agreeing to give the U.S. 50% of the net profits from the Gordie Howe bridge, even though Canadian taxpayers invested $6.4 BILLION and the U.S invested $0.

Why did you and the media give Carney a pass on his weak approach for the first 18 months?

Carney and his advisers know how to manipulate the Canadian people. They knew using an "elbows up" approach in the 2025 federal election would be a winner. Turns out it was all empty rhetoric. Once elected, it was bending a knee, after bending a knee. All the while, crickets from the Canadian news outlets. It is quite likely that Carney's pulling out of the trade negotiations and then announcing counter tariffs was merely another political ploy to exhibit some backbone as the date for the byelections approached. Give Carney a couple of weeks, and Canada will be back at the negotiating table, no doubt giving away the farm.

The question which should be asked is, where would Canada be today if we had not used Carney's flatter and give-in approach?

The question is not whether we can get a deal, but rather, whether Trump would HONOUR a deal. Don't forget he has broken deals with Canada, Iran, China ,etc.

You make a lot of assumptions about the reason for the breakdown in negotiations. None of these assumptions are factual. Acknowledging that Trump may be right in certain circumstances is not supporting him and unpatriotic to Canadians. Carney has not produced for Canada. Trump has produced for the US, whether we like it or not.

As much as I tried, I could never get to the point of his rant. Convective.
