A wanna be leader with no integrity. The childcare issue. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. This isn't a leader, he is a grifter in it for himself. He cares not one iota about the people. Just spending their money on his ideologies.

I can help. I live in Victoria. Eby called the election just as a civic election was getting started. Sign, sign, everywhere a sign.

After Saturday (civic voting day), we will at least be able to find out who is standing for a provincial office rather than a municipal one. That might help.

Two other things struck me about his campaign:

He keeps promising to do things that his party could have done for years in office but never did. If he wins now, he knows that he doesn't ever need to do them.

Maybe that is what he wants. Never overlook the innate leftwingism of the average BC voter.

His supporters on X think they have won just by claiming that opposition politicians are racists, in bed with Donald Trump. No evidence is offered. For his hard core supporters, of course, no evidence is needed. Perhaps it is even an offence to them to suggest that evidence is needed.

The rest of the electorate will have to make do with supposing that Eby must be right about that.

Who knows? If the mist clears and voters choose look past their TDS, they may notice Eby's lack of actual achievements. Many Conservatives could win seats. We shall see.

Good, solid summary.

Calling for Buy Canadian while wearing a USA brand was a memorable moment.

But digging deeper it is also things like flip-flopping on the Royal Columbia Hospital expansion 48 hours before the election call. Shameless. And transparent. Only the CBC would believe it.

And of course moving from supporting a real estate bailout by buying unsold condos to proposing a special tax on unsold condos. Huh? I guess he thinks we're stupid.

But looking back it has been a litany of similar miscalculations: safe supply devasting lives, SOGI attacking traditional values and families, freezing like a deer in the headlights with Cowichan land claims, the whole policy of DRIPA, backroom deals to give away Haida Gwaii, fiscal policies resembling shovelling money of the back of a truck, and of course the pettiness.

This should be the NDP's campaign slogan: "If you pay more taxes, then you'll get more free stuff."

As one who has long resided in BC MP Tamara Jansen territory, all I can say about Eby's opportunistic election call and his apparent twisting, turning and tumbling headlong towards defeat ... is that it couldn't have happened to a much (NOT) nicer guy!

Brian, Eby is a walking disaster in power or on the trail ! IMO his use of $10.00 day care should be the straw that broke the camel’s back !

Good Luck to British Colombians, they need to rid themselves of this drug pushing Premier. NDP = Needles, Drugs and Poverty.

lies and dishonesty often come back to harm one... this is very clear with this dishonest man.

Eby /NDP are destroying beautiful BC in similar fashion and the Liberals and Trudeau hobbled Canada as a nation. It’s incredible how many important policy issues that have bungled, DRIPA drugs and a serious malignant debt problem etc. On top of the crass craven lazy political opportunism. What is perplexing is how many people in Canada and in this instance BC support this incompetence and harm that it does. It brings into question the degree of collective intelligence here.

Martin Dixon's avatar

The question of collective intelligence was settled with extreme prejudice in 2015 when we elected a man largely on the strength of his hair and last name. Eleven years later, there’s precious little evidence of improvement.

Great point, Martin.

We have done this to ourselves, and we alone shall inherit the burdens to bear.

It really is astonishing.

The best thing that could happen is Eby fading away in the sunset! The province is a mess and needs someone a lot smarter to guide it through the challenging future!

and now one would not venture anywhere near the Byward Market after dark to protect life and limb...

By watching the election campaign Kaos unfold and the body language of Premier Eby as he stands in his mess, is there any chance that he has engineered his own demise rather than face the music of bond rating agencies and angry citizens who are demanding a wholesale overhaul of his sweeping Marxist agenda?

Assuming that the BC NDP continues to election day on a death row countdown to the gallows, there are no shortage of poison pills staring at an incoming government. Eby and his NDP partners will have lots of fun painting the Conservatives as mean, heartless people taking aim at the little people.

Donald Ashman's avatar

Brian, Premier Eby has only one thing available to win: that is, the multi-spiked crown from Kathleen Wynne as the worst Premier of any Province, since before our Confederation.
