No!

Where is Con Carney’s Transparency he speaks of so justifiably?! He lied about US not wanting French on Goods. He has made deals with CCP China in Trade deals. Throwing Canada into economic turmoil. His WEF Globalist Agenda to wipe out Western Countries with his Communist Values along side The City of London. Filling his pockets Brooksfield every country he visits. Ask yourself why does he and his family live in the US and holds 97% of his investments in the USA. He knows exactly what is in his Blind Trust. He has no interest in Canada or Canadians. Using you for his own Political and Financial gain. You are being used and fleeced.

Yes they have. Failed as Trump is trying to STOP CCP China from walking into Canada with full on Trades with Carney. To which he has negotiated with before hand. It will be the back door into N America for Full On Communism. #2 its about both by-elections to get the far left Dem/Lib’s to stay in power for the CCP New World Oder WEF & City of London. WAKE UP!

Brian Lilley Kim is correct. Cut to the chase : we need a trade deal. We prosper with one.

Carney sells hate and division. He doesn’t care about your prosperity. Only his. And he sold out to China long ago. China is “an existential threat”. Really.

My advice Mr Lilley, is flog the hell out of your presence on social media You Tube. Substack. Facebook. X.

Because as Corus is failing and carney subsidizes media including Postmedia he will run out of money and runaway out of Canada. .

Postmedia and others will go broke or return to USA. Your job gone.

Am talk radio is on life support. Global barely making it. CTV suck up to carney for help, but when he leaves ? CBC? Is to laugh

Every day Canadians are being pillaged by taxation.

How many houses has carney built?

How many expired visa holders this year?

FIVE MILLION

No tracking.

US tariffs on Canada's exports equals higher prices for those Canadian exports for American consumers. Not good for Canadian exporters. Canadian tariffs on US exports equals higher prices for those American exports for Canada's buyers. Not good for Canadian consumers. I do not see how any of this could be considered a great idea for Canadian affordability. What kind of childish zero sum game are these imbeciles playing? Canadians lose in either scenario.

Carney did not want a deal….much more advantageous to blame President Trump for the economic mess the Liberals have created.

I’m astonished by the almost unanimous agreement among journalists that the deal was a bad one for Canada. The fact is we don’t know and won’t know until the details are released, which is unlikely to happen here. The liberals are not very transparent at the best of times and they had major political incentives to have the deal fail. It may in fact be that the deal was the best we can get and that overall it would have been of benefit to most of the country. We may never know and no one is pressing Carney to come clean.

I’m also astonished by the widespread perception that the US is unfairly targeting Canada and that we deserve a tariff free deal. The complete failure to see that the US has adopted a new position on trade that has impacted all of its trading relationships (and will continue to do so no matter which party is in power - they need the revenue to offset their deficits) speaks to an embarrassingly inflated opinion amongst the population of Canadas place in the OECD and a failure to understand the world outside of the lens of CNN and CBC.

Finally, I’m astonished by the glee with which the political class and the general public have greeted the counter tariffs. This can only reflect a complete ignorance as to who they negatively impact - Canadian businesses and consumers - and how little they will hurt the US. That said, it also reflects the willingness of the politicians and population to spend, spend, spend and to be fine with more and more people and companies on the government dole.

I’ve spoken to federal officials and provincial officials across five different provinces about the deal.

If five different provinces with different parties representing them all say the same thing, then maybe they are onto something.

How many different provincial governments have you spoken to?

I agree with your comment, however, is it too much to ask for the details to be released? A final document would have been available. This is a failed o e, so it is not covered by a NDA, or requiring any security clearances. Stating how many have you spoken to was just a little bit arrogant! I follow you because you are different don't change, Canadians want to understand, as you said it is Canadians that will bear the brunt of this. And still our federal government send monies overseas whilst Canadians are struggling.

We need transparency, not platitudes or arrogance or "trust me I'm your PM".

Poilievre is right about what needs to be done, you reiterated the points. Will Carney listen, I doubt it.

None of course. I’m not a journalist. But I am an individual who consumes information from a wide variety of sources (including your substack and columns), from both mainstream and independent media in Canada, the US and the UK. You could be right about the trade deal. I will continue to withhold judgment until there is full transparency, so I suspect I may wait a very long time.

Good post.

Good reasoning.

Donald Trump has been consistent about one thing for 45 years: that is, his contention that other countries have been taking advantage of the USA with respect to trade. That America protects world trade and the rest of the world takes it for granted.

This may be true, it may be false, or the truth may be somewhere in between. But no one should have been surprised that Donald Trump is a mercantilist who is opposed to free trade.

Once again, we were unprepared.

Sorry, Canada. You have no cards.

You’ve been freeloading of the US for too long and now your sins are catching up to you.

#intentionalincompetence by the #MarkCarney #Canadian Federal #Liberal Government, actually a form of #treason?

I am liking #Canada less and less every day that the #Canadian Federal #Liberals are in power.

#MarkCarney doesn't always win for the #WEF, but when he loses, he tries to take #Canada down with him?

#CANADA

#MarkCarney the Master Negotiator? Not so far?

More like ‘Master No-go Bedshitter’?

#IntentionalIncompetence is

#Treason?

The offer is still the same as it has been for 45 years free trade duty free restrictions free an open border or duties restrictions and a locked down border as we have had for the last 26 years or so.

Diana sakellis's avatar

No I don’t trust the very dangerous and corrupt government. Carney is a pathological liar who uses fraudulent logic to steal hard working people’s money. He needs to step down

Canada has been conditioned to think they have some inherent right to free access to the U.S. market.

Donald Ashman's avatar

You make a good point.

We have also been conditioned to believe that we are fair traders-free traders in good faith- when that is clearly not the case.

David's avatar

No, Canadians want access to the market at a reasonable rate. There are a lot of issues, especially with food products coming out of the states. The others, we should be able to work through. Canada would get a far better deal if it was actually developing its resources as it should be. Expecting Canadians to simply roll over because you are the US is simply foolish. Canada would have been better served if a deal was made 14 months ago. This is a lose-lose scenario, and yes, Canada will lose more.
