She has flak coming in from all sides,the NDP,Ottawa, Alberta Public unions, Lgbt trans community and the separatist movement. To overcome those barriers and get this potential deal is a win of sorts and perhaps it will trigger some renewed investment in Alberta. Having been a pipeliner for thirty years there is some renewed optimism in the industry, cautious but still optimism

Appreciate the interview. but I still think it's all hat no cattle. Net zero is still in place. Carbon capture is just stupid. No private sector proponent will risk billions to face First Nations that will cause nothing but trouble for decades. It's a nothing burger.
Good job on the interview Brian. I sincerely hope that this is a true turning point for the Alberta/Canadian economy. That said, I am a realist. Carney is a master at the bait and switch. He’s looking at a spring election and stealing Poilievre’s advantage while giving the West a sprinkling of hope works to his goal of a majority. He used the Trump card to win the election. Now he’s promising economic prosperity — exactly what everyone has been begging for. I threw away my rose coloured glasses long ago and I would strongly recommend everyone to do the same.
I just do not believe it. With all deference to Danielle who I think is a great Premiere. I think Carney and these liberals are stuck in this ideological climate posturing and moral virtue signaling. So when I see some shovels in the ground I will believe it.
On the other hand I think that there is a mounting pressure coming in Canada and the larger U.S. for the very viability of economy. Canada is way behind in spite of our riches in the ground. Carney would outlaw fireplace wood if he could get a virtue signal out of it and then be surprised and shocked when left with nothing else everyone was stoking the fireplace, with wood. There is a natural imperative in play that the feds need to accommodate whether all the ideological agree or not. The EV mandates for instance. Just not going to happen. Nobody is buying, the power grid is not adequate and they do not suit our climate. Maybe China has better? But not workable. He will be forced to retreat one way or another.
Now on the other hand I do not believe that Carney necessarily is as staunch an environmentalist as he might claim. He has certainly done a masterful job of building a political and stock portfolio around this ground swell of climate. Somehow I suspect he will be just as big an oilman as anyone once the money is coming in and he can shift away from NetZero and other such ideas. Trudeau truly did not know better. Carney goes where its easiest.
I truly hope it works out. But until I see shovels in the ground and my phone rings to lead a project, I don't believe it.

Yes, Danielle needs to do this. Nutrien needs to make some noise also - ditto with Moe and Sask's needs. CarbonTax Carney must be placed into the position of defending his foot-dragging and First Nations capitulation - as any sane Canadian knows this is what is going to happen. 90 days, if 'all's quiet on the Western Front', then call him out and get cracking on plan B.
This MOU between Alberta and Canada is certainly different in my view because it has specific interrelated actions that must occur before the next steps are undertaken. The Premier has been clear about eliminating the Emissions Cap as well as the Clean Energy Regulations being a pre-condition to production increases of Heavy oil and NG development in the Power Generation sector. Those regulations disappear IF the Industrial Carbon Tax reaches a minimum of $130/tonne. Now my question would be why that particular linkage? Well, one has to understand Mark Carney’s Net Zero and GFANZ initiatives. Carbon credits have already been purchased in anticipation of a marketplace developing. These are currently about $75/tonne per credit. Getting a $130/tonne minimum (floor shall we say) those holding current credits will almost double their money. Carney just paid off a lot of friends around the world. Does Alberta care about that? Not so much, because the TIER system in Alberta allows any company’s tax paid per tonne on the CO2 to be directed towards the Pathways project as a contribution. So, Alberta establishes a carbon price floor and Carney establishes a new class of asset to trade worldwide. In exchange, both Alberta and Canada need to develop a de carbonization industry as well as increase Oil and Gas production and ship it to world markets in Europe and Asia where the carbon credits markets are set to start trading.
Perhaps I’m wrong, but I heard booing, not related to the pipeline MOU but following to Danielle’s statement that she supports a strong Alberta within Canada. All media seem to be suggesting the former.
it's indefensible. After independence is achieved we have an election and elect a President of Alberta with a better understanding on all the issues and geopolitics.
