Ford and the America booze deal shows a serious lack of understanding and intelligence. Seriously

Taxes are the problem in Canada. That and liberal group think and Carneys deception

Enjoy your stay with friends and family in the great province of Saskatchewan.

And consider that all booze is way cheaper in America.

Say hello to Quick Dick McDick!

Well when you have an automatic booze increase every year we are not headed for affordability anytime soon. By the time my 18 year old is my age it will be well over $100 for a case of beer. Price everything out of existence. The Canadian way. 😢

Great comment. All levels of Canadian governments are addicted to taxes. There should be a label, in both French and English, on the foreheads of politicians, warning taxpayers that politicians are wasting our tax dollars.

Maybe that’s the point. Muslims don’t drink. Not sure about Southeast Asians. But then again there is the beef issue. Both expensive and maybe this government deems them both unnecessary or downright “bad”. 😉 This group will definitely out “populate” us in time.

I have no problem with American liquor producers and am happy to keep buying their products.

In Ontario where you live, Brian, Prohibition was ended in 1927 with the same legislation that created the LCBO... so, a century later, the monopoly exists only for the purposes of keeping prices high and justifying union jobs.

While dumps Canadian Whiskey over closing a small plant. International wines and spirits must come from source and are forbidden to be bottled in Ontario.

No matter how you slice it or where you buy it, Canadians get gouged at every turn. We pay more, have less selection and it's only gonna get worse. Tax, tax, tax... none of our governments know how to reign in spending so they tax us to death. Booze is only the tip of the spear... I need a drink!

Brian - have you ever thought about checking out the local brews when you travel outside Ontario? We have for many years eschewed the major brands in favour of local breweries. Big Rock here in Calgary is a local brand which is very successful, but there are a fair few other local breweries, one of which now operates a brew pub near us.

Do remember, back in the day, that a major brewer wanted to close its brewery in Saskatoon but a few of the employees managed to buy out the premises and set up shop. That's where you should have been shopping when you were in Saskatchewan

In SK there is 15% sales tax on booze. 5% gst & 10% liquor tax. You have to factor that intonthe whiskey price

Easy to understand. Canadian governments assume rightly that by making our identity and the American they will stay in power which they will. It's a long historical win for governments in Canada to hate America.

Just moved to Australia. Much worse here. Around 24 CAD a 6 pack!

Austrialia is just warm Canada.

Same approach of governance.

Pitty. Austalia (and Canada) could be amazing places if governments just got out of the way.

You get what you vote for. Now you can understand why the 13 colonies decided to throw tea into boston harbor.

Brian, when I was a kid, my parents ran a vineyard. In 1974, my Mother found she liked a certain wine that the winery produced, and she mentioned that to the field supervisor.

The field supervisor told her flat out:

Of that 26oz (750mL) bottle, take a 4 oz (100mL) glass of wine. Enjoy it. Now, that glass:

-paid you for the grapes, the crushing, the fermenting containers, the blending, the aging storage, the filtering, the bottle, the label, the boxing, and the profit to the winery FOB winery doc.

The other 22 oz (650 mL) goes to the various levels of government.

Remember Dominion Electrohome? We could buy that television manufactured in Kitchener, Ontario CHEAPER in Buffalo than we could in Ontario.
