Carney's disgraceful Palestinian State recognition, Charlie Kirk's memorial and Minister Gary's ramblings...
A sharp cross-border contract on Sunday.
What a juxtaposition across the Canada-U.S. border on Sunday as we rewarded a terrorist group and the Americans honoured Charlie Kirk.
As people lined up in the dark outside of the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona for the Kirk memorial, the Carney government in Ottawa made a dark move. With the stroke of a pen, the posting of some pixels, and not a vote in Parliament, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada was recognizing a Palestinian State.
This may go against a vote of the majority of Parliamentarians taken just over a year ago, but that doesn’t matter to Carney.
He’s not interested in Parliament, he has his friends to impress in New York at the United Nations General Assembly. That’s where Carney gets to meet with Keir Starmer, Emanuel Macron and Anthony Albanese who also have recognized this new Palestinian State.
Quick question, can anyone tell me the capital of this state?
There are so many problems with this announcement, including that it rewards terrorism as I wrote in my Toronto Sun column. Please give it a read and a share, I quote from former Liberal cabinet minister Irwin Cotler who also believes it rewards terrorism and he points out other issues.
But basics, like where the capital of this state is, what are the borders, who belongs to it and who is in charge have not been answered.
With this move, Carney has shown himself to be far more naive that I ever imagined. He will be celebrated in the halls of the United Nations this week, but it was a horrible decision and brings shame on Canada.
Charlie Kirk’s memorial…
When I die, I’m pretty sure that I won’t be filling an NFL stadium with more that 60,000 people in attendance with thousands more in spill over venues with millions more watching at home. I’m pretty sure though that Charlie Kirk never imagined a memorial for him quite like what we saw over five hours on Sunday - and that was just the official program.
There were a lot of tributes to him, expressions of faith, there was gratitude, hope and remarkably, forgiveness.
If you haven’t seen it, Charlie’s widow Erika Kirk paused at one point in her speech and did the unthinkable for so many. Just 11 days after her husband’s brutal, public assassination, Erika Kirk forgave her husband’s killer.
Do watch this full clip as she describes how her late husband sought to “save the lost boys of the West” the young men with no purpose in their lives.
The rudderless nature of life for so many young men is a problem in our society. Western society has been upended over the past several decades, young men are failing on every metric and whether it was Charlie Kirk or Scott Galloway, who comes at it from a very different political perspective, I’ve been listening and pondering what we can do.
More on that later.
The memorial was an amazing display and outpouring of love for a man whom I didn’t know but was clearly taken too soon.
I’ve spent time pushing back online against those who claim he was hateful, racist, misogynistic, antisemitic etc. but I’m done with that now. After presenting the proof that what they have been told is wrong, that the quotes they have presented are false or put forward in a fake context, the reply is the same - I don’t care about the facts, these are my feelings.
So, on this topic, I’ll leave you with the words of Bishop Robert Barron who was there. And if you don’t follow Bishop Barron on social media, he is worth the follow.
Carney pushes ahead on his foolish gun plan…
I was writing about this over the weekend, the plan by Mark Carney to ramp up rather than run away from Justin Trudeau’s foolish gun “buyback” program. I interviewed Tracey Wilson of the Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights, we did a whole video, it was great and then the news all changed.
Leaked audio of Public Minister Gary Anandasangaree reveals that the federal government will launch a pilot project for their gun “buyback” program on Tuesday in Cape Breton. It was also revealed that the money pot "capped" at $742M, Anandasangaree admits that if he had to start over they'd scrap it but it was a campaign promise and he blames pressure from Quebec voters.
Tracey has so much more in the video below, but I want to put this up against the context of what police are dealing with when it comes to real gun crime.
This is a social media post from the Toronto Police Association about an event over the weekend.
This is what cops deal with on a regular basis and instead of putting money into ending this nonsense, the Carney Liberals will waste $742 million going after legal, law abiding gun owners.
Watch the video below and be shocked.
Carney is the living image of Peter Sellers in "Being,There". Dumber than any of us ever imagined..but looks sharp in his Banker's costume. To me, he is a " little man"..making Canada a " little country" and us, a " little people".
What does Carney gain from recognizing Palestine right now, at this particular moment in time ? Things are different for Australia - who also made this same move - they decide to strengthen their economic ties with China in light of the Trump tariff issue. They are a minor trading partner for the US anyway. Britain has inked 2 new trade deals with Trump in the last 6 months - the most recent was last week after he was feted by the Royals so they can pretty much do as they please now, they have their deals. Canada has no deal with either Britain, the E.U. and most importantly Trump - it’s largest trading partner and this is the wrong move right now. It’s actually really stupid as all it’s going to do is anger the US and make our position in trade negotiations with the US even worse. Carney is looking to inch Canada closer to Britain and Europe. He has been catering to their defence needs and he calls Canada the most European of the Non European nations. To me that is his motivation here - trying to please Macron, Starmer and the rest of the EU in the hopes they will “accept us” into their cabal so he can push us away from the US..There are a lot of problems with that. Europe is broke and some of its stronger member nations have bern in a recession now for a couple of years. Secondly to trade with them will be quite expensive. To buy one Euro you will need $ 1.60 Canadian, and to buy one British Pound -it will cost you $ 1.70 Canadian, so a 70% exchange rate. This is the wrong policy at the wrong time. You wait to get a deal fine with Trump then you make a move like this. Once again Carney has shown that he is clueless as a strategist and as a negotiator. Regular Canadians are going to pay for this and that is sad - but then regular Canadians keep electing the Liberals and they are still favoured in the polls, so you get what you bargained for.
