Having been a part of the Criminal Courts in the Province of Ontario for the better part of 50 years I’ve seen a complete reversal of how the laws of Canada were applied from 1968 to 2018, for 45 years I was a member of the Justice of the Peace Bench, for approximately 25 of those years i did preside in numerous jurisdictions in Eastern Ontario.

Over the years initially with the Bail reform Act/Youth Justice Act, I and a lot of my colleagues saw our responsibilities to the Public eroded by decisions coming out of the Supreme Court of Canada and newly enacted Criminal Code provisions, there where many times when there was no choice to be made..no-one was to be kept in custody and the least onerous conditions were to be imposed on any release order and that started with the arrest by Police, the Arresting Officer was to release on an Appearance Notice, or if the accused was brought to the Station the Officer in Charge was to release again on the least onerous form of release that the Officer was entitled to use, Promise to Appear etc.

Showcause/Bail Court was were accused appeared before Justices of the Peace and as noted above our hands were literally tied.

When did the problems begin? !960s, 70s....1982 - The Trudeau kebec Charter forced upon the nation, kebec taking complete control of Canada. Yes, Canada is broken, but why? Xenophobic - bigoted – Marxist - Commie - kebek controls the nation, Ottawa. 100s of billions stolen out of Alberta and Sask., BC, Ont. since the 1960s, 70s.... Equalization (money laundering into kebec) Program became entrenched in his commie charter = Proud communist Pierre Trudeaus constitution of 1982. Since then, 24 years of Liberal governments have made things worse. 18 years of 'Conservative' governments, the exact same thing. Kebeks Charter = 10s of billions stolen out of Ottawa yearly and funneled into quebec and other metis (they are not french) – towns and companies, all across the country every year, all disguised as grants, subsides, equalization, transfers, bilingualism - (code for french) – only outside quebec while kebec bans our language, history = bills 22, 178, 101, 96... multiculturalism - (only outside kebec), massive government growth, control, censorship, taxes and debt. Canada now just liberals masquerading as conservatives, the rest, communists masquerading as liberals. ’French power’ in all provinces. They will not give up power, control of Ottawa, the country. They are revising, eliminating our BNA history all over the country as they rename all things English, Scottish...sick. Election fraud? YES, guaranteed. Why? Well simple, they lie about everything else. Welcome to Marxist - commie Canada where your vote is meaningless. Repeal the charter. Stop all immigration. F kebek.....or get out. They are crooked and corrupt to the core. Decades of greed, lies.... Why? Xenophobic = Bigoted = Socialist = kebec runs the nation. $ This IS the problem, and No party, NO ‘leader’ will touch it. ‘Conservatives’ Poliver, Ford ?...nothing, not a word. “First quebec, and Ottawa and then the entire country…” ‘French power..." PET. $$ Seriously, how do we get these lying, greedy bigots out of Ottawa, Queens Park...?

A politicized legal system is a failed legal system. It's been done to us by leftists who want the legal system to fail. Ditto for every other system: medical, media, federal bureaucracy, education, entertainment, etc. Done by the Democrats in the US, & the hideous far left Liberals in Canada. It's hard to believe, I know, but how else could most systems be failing simultaneously? Step back & have a good laugh, that's all. We can't hope to correct all of it. Who knows why the left wants this - a Thanatos condition? (destruction for its own sake), a collective derangement? It's as though the left are arson fanatics, setting one fire after another after yet another, as conservative fire fighters rush from fire to fire, & eventually, well just give up.

As a western conservative who witnessed Ford hurt the conservative vote in Ontario I could never vote for him. I might as well vote liberal.

It’s important to note very few if any of the supreme court’s decisions, with the exception of gay marriage, were ever driven by broad public opinion

That’s especially true in this instance.

The SOC needs to deeply reflect on it’s role and relevance in Canadian society

and stick to making non ideological rulings

We would all benefit from that stance and most Canadians will cheer if the court restricts it’s decisions to when it is called on by parliament to render them and not allow themselves to be swept along by activists

While I agree with Lilley on Wagner, and was a supporter of Harper, he made SO many bad appointments I have a hard time remembering the good ones. From Duffy to Brazeau to Wagner to Fantino to his failure to appoint 22 Senators before he left office, Harper was a disaster on appointments. Unfortunately he is not alone in that respect and that is why we are stuck with the Great Blessed Charter, the Young Offenders Act, Healing Lodges, and numerous other disastrous failures that keep Canada on the edge of third world status despite the wealth potential of this nation.

*** I was always under the impression that a young person's brain is not fully developed until the age of 25..a scientific fact... so the law works withing those parameters. A sort of ...not criminally responsible as they do things without the capability of critical thinking. Jmo

***public safety minister has not fullfilled his duties in either of his positions. Recusing oneself for doing things that are illegal is saying.. i hang with criminals. Hes honest in that regard..but supports terrorists.. a no for me.

***The rest i need to catchup.

Great article.

Let’s recall who played the biggest role in Establishing Premier Doug as the best, or better Premier of Ontario! _It was much more than Toronto finally realizing the Liberal Party of Canada’s branch governance as Premier of Ontario with the Ottawa, Crowd of McGuilty and the udderaly incompetent Replacement when He was forced to escape to the Hull Corral of Laurentian Elite of Liberal Mandarins with the Paid-for by Foreign Political Entities beginning with the 2012 New York Times published book tickling the fancy of the Baby-Boomers infatuation with the Communist Chairman Mao Zedong mentoring P.E.T. during 1948, 1950’s, 1960’s, and Mao’s congratulation in 1974 for opening up the “BackDoor-of North America into the U.S.A. and starting the process of changing the International Drug Money Laundering Of Macou becoming Vancouver B.C. - with an offchute in Ontario’s Markham; have a refresher by reading Canada’s investigative Book, published in 2017 after a decade of research by Sam Cooper *[ now has another in-depth investigative book ] and fighting the insolence and indifference of the Junior Trudeau! _Does any unbought Canada Media ever report on the Drug-gig of Fentanyl shipping from Vancouver available on the Web over the last couple of months?_Just indifference when the U.S.A. President was asking for attention of Fentanyl killing Americans. _Speaking about Drugs in Canada returns to why Trawna voters. finally threw the Corrupt Liberal Party of Canada’s Branch Governance of Ontario to the extent of not even having enough Elected M.P.P.’s Liberals to reach the small number of Eight [8] to become a Registered Political Party in Ontario’s Legislature!_But the real entity of Electing Premier Doug Ford was when The Toronto Star casually destroyed the Health of the Ford Family with continuing reference to trying drugs with a group of - out-of-reach - kids as a reachout and the constant pressure, at a minimum, ended his life. _My regrets to the Ford Family’s memory of a fine Coach and strong supporter of team sports, until He actually entered the Political Arena of Toronto during the “Bad-Times” of Liberal’s accessing Ontario’s Tax-Payers to follow the pattern of buying votes, which was why The Liberals were trounced out of the House of Parliament in Ottawa/Hull! __MikeSr

Mr. Lilley writes:

“Among the names supposedly on the chopping block are Chrystia Freeland, Steven Guilbeault, Melanie Joly and others.”

Yaaay! Get on with it but I’ll believe it when I see it. While rumours are fun to ponder, the chess moves to solidify the recent Liberal surge in Quebec are plain to see. All of the key strategists and enablers of the Prime Minister have roots in Quebec.

Based upon the combustible nature of Guilbeault in western Canada, he wouldn’t be missed by two western Premiers but he reportedly has a large following of crusaders and the Liberals are still committed to major anti oil and gas legislation that he is identified with. If Guilbeault is dropped from Cabinet, can we expect to see a repealing of the west coast tanker ban? Or the gutting of the “no more pipelines” Act?

As for Joly, her good fortune for high profile Cabinet appointments never seems to match her competency based upon visible performances in the public. She has a reputation as a stellar Quebec organizer, which has me loop back to my original point about the Liberal fortunes in Quebec.
