It’s pretty obvious what $2B in ‘deferred’ spending on infrastructure leads to.
Well done Nenshi & jondek, two woke socialist mayors who ignored the needs of Calgarians but spent the ‘deferred’ funds on expanding city hall & on woke dei bs.
We the citizens of Calgary demand that these two mayors & the councillors who voted with them pay the citizens of Calgary back by not paying any of their elaborate pensions, or any other benefits they receive through their disservice to the citizens of Calgary
100% YES. AND WE SHOULD DO THE SAME TO THE FEDS AT TAX TIME. GIVE TAXPAYERS BACK THE STOLEN CPP AND TAX DOLLARS FOR THOSE "INVESTMENTS"??? AND FOR THE 5 STAR HOTEL SERVICES NEWCOMERS GET FREE PAID FOR WITH OUR TAX DOLLARS.
Yes! CPP is our money NOT the govt. My husband passed.away after 2 years of collecting his CPP. I did not receive a.payout, his money just went into the big.hole funding too may bureaucrats!! Thieves!! Then the govt has the nerve to claw back on my benefits!! Criminals!
I lived through the 2024 water debacle in Calgary which was due entirely - as you point out in the podcast from that time - to the neglect of the City of Calgary. Now, we are again in this situation on the same water line. Overall, my approach is to say, "To Hell with any suggestions of water restrictions!"
We have a new council, just two months old, now, and they are not responsible for the problems of 2024. How, damned, ever! The damned city hall bureaucracy hasn't been cleaned out and there still is no detailed analysis available to the public about 2024. Quite frankly, unless and until they start lopping off heads, starting with the top bureaucracy, my unwillingness to accept water restrictions will continue.
Another break on the Bearspaw south feeder main hits hard, especially repeating the 2024 chaos. The city did repair 29 high-risk sections back then to stabilize the pipe. Their investigation, released in December 2024, pointed to factors like mortar cracking and wire breaks weakening the structure. It supplies 60 percent of Calgary's water. The parallel pipe project starts in spring 2026 and runs to 2028 for better redundancy. Fair call on needing more bureaucratic accountability.
No accountability for any mess up. The Mayor has declared "Heads will roll". Yeah - right. We still haven't seen the report from the last one, even council hasn't. When was the last time ANY heads rolled in any Government organization. What a joke. Water Services Director, Nancy Mackay; General Manager, Planning and Development Services, Debra Hamilton; Director, City and Regional Planning, Kathy Davies Murphy; Director, Infrastructure Services Project Development, Sara Huber.
The majority of municipalities have strict monitoring and preventive maintenance programs on critical infrastructure. Anything that shows signs of advanced deterioration leading to catastrophic failure is removed from service under controlled conditions. Calgary is an outlier and I wonder how that's so.
100% agree. The consequences for political and bureaucratic failures fall on taxpayers. At one time there were firings and resignations but that was long ago.
This is the result of past City Councils and ADMINISTRATION focusing on virtue signalling and not on the tasks which keep the city running properly. We are getting electric buses which don’t work in Edmonton in cold weather. We have blanket upzoning which will put huge stress on our infrastructure but we won’t start a new main line until 2026 finishing in 2028! Our new city council must roll some heads in admin.
Question: why Calgary only? Why is this not happening in other cities that use the same materials?
Or... could it be that those that manage the infrastructure, pump water throught it, provide a critical service to Calgarians, have piss poor cyber security.
As it is widely reported that water systems in western nations are under attack by russian cyber threat actors.
So possibly the land Bylaw passed by the last govt that allowed multiple housing units where a single house stood, wasn't the best plan. Idiots!!! I just read that a small apt building went up where a few old houses were. No parking, looks ridiculous, and strain on infrastructure... all because "housing shortage".
Most liberal and ndp socialists live in Canadian cities. I consider the liberals socialists because of their anti-capitalism, and passing federal bills taking away the rights of provinces, and Canadian citizens, and giving it to the federal government. Socialists are jealous of what capitalists accomplish. They want a share of what capitalists have without doing much for it. Most business owners work hard and take personal risks to get what they have. Most government workers now are socialist and think they deserve a job even though it's paid for by business taxpayers. Most of Calgary city counsel have been socialist representatives for years. They are putting money into Calgary government city workers, environment (very high on socialist government priority), and aesthetics, while ignoring infrastructure. This is the way socialists really think, their agenda is more important than clean drinking water. Clean drinking water is very important to human survival. The whole water system should be replaced or repaired now while we have the money. With inflation and debt, we may not have the money in the future.
In their heads socialists dislike capitalism and really think government should have total control over business and citizens. They are enviromental extremists (They are extremists when they divert money away from necessary public needs to environment programs) and want to break capitalism, totally ignoring that government uses other people's money. Alberta may be PC, but for years most Calgary and Edmonton city counsel are socialists.
I’m surprised that no one is blaming Carney for Calgary’s water problems. Isn’t he responsible for infrastructure in Canada? I’m sure PP has would do better - or just provide a grievance sound bite.
Hmm. Well the argument could be made that this is the Liberals fault as they have made our country poorer by not allowing businesses to operate and scaring investment away from our country. No tax money being collected from businesses means less money being spent on infrastructure. Good job Communists!

See any trend? Head of CEMA also a woman.
I sense DEI
It is about time that bureaucrats in any city or province are held accountable for piss poor decisions. Don't hold your breath.
He knows better than anyone, no one with any decision making power will be prosecuted.

It seems to me, the last 15 years there is absolutely no consequences when government people ignore, or make mistakes.

10 years of Leftwing Woke Virtue Signalling BS is what lead to all this!
Nenshi should be charged for multiple crimes along with Gonduk

The federal government transfers money to the provinces. It's up to the province what they do with it.
