Canada needs a reset

Understatement

Brent's avatar

We need to become a Republic with a real Constitution that binds the hands of government and truly puts the Citizens in control of their country. It is possible that a revolution is needed to take back control of OUR country.

Great article Brian , even thought sometimes your column is off in left field. I find you genuinely try to balance both sides and write on facts not feelings. Unlike the bought off msm. If the truth slapped them in the face they report whatever their master, the Liberals, tell them to write. I dont know how day after day they print or report lies, and the ones going after Pierre are the most disgusting but like school girls there tiny feelings are hurt because God forbid someone had the guts to speak truth about them and know their days would be numbered under Pierre. Then what would they do? Their great skills , sarcasm incase you dont realize it, The Enquier is looking for writers, and even that would be a stretch for them. Is what they lie about taught in journalism school? Anyways keep up the good work, because the only honest media now are podcasters , but then boomers wouldnt have anything to listen too if they no deceitful msm, they cant get in the modern times and lap up whatever their master msm says. But all they are doing is depriving their grandkids with a future in Canada. The US is spending $500,000 to teach young folks to be electricians, plumbers, carpenters because they will always have jobs and are in short supply and they wont finish with $100,000 debt and a useless degree. I just want to add one thought for you Brian concerning Carney and Pierre. I am sure you have heard the saying, keep your friends close and your enemies closer and if you knew what was really happening in the US you would understand what President Trumps goals are.

Boomer here. I stay away from MSM and read Brian's column on the regular. Many of my friends do as well.

Claudette Leece's avatar

In hindsight I should of said the majority

Martin Dixon's avatar

Another boomer here and the generalization is pretty fair. Let's not be too hard on them though. Many likely have the mad cow and others are just trying to protect their grift. A 75 year old couple with some proper planning can keep some of their OAS and still make 370k a year in 2026. What a country!

Mike Blew's avatar

Wrong! Once you hit $133,000 per year you get zero OAS with or without planning!

Kim's avatar

YOU are correct. We can't afford to retire at 67. Gov clawed back husband's OAS. Liberal/ndp don't want you to better yourselves or the economy. 65% tax bracket $$ gone to War, corrupt politicians, liberal made up companies to launder money, immigrant funding, fraudulent schools, native bands, HOAX Climate change and green slush funds, e bikes to Africa... I could go on and on.

Martin Dixon's avatar

False. Bone up on the OAS deferral rules and what happens when you turn 75. And what part about couple do you not understand?

But thanks for coming out with the confident “Wrong!” It really adds something when correcting someone who does this for a living.

Au Finger's avatar

Anyone (or couple) who are in the wheelhouse of making the kind of retirement income you’re speaking of, has made a mistake deferring to 70.

Au Finger's avatar

Wrong. Try again….

Au Finger's avatar

A. $370K…I don’t know what ‘proper planning’ means, but I see $315K ish for a couple.

- even then, the minuscule amount paid out (@ 50% + taxable) would make the net cost to government negligible).

I’m sure you’re well aware of how much tax a couple declaring $370K actually pays, and how much tax they must have paid over their working lifetime(s) (and indeed in their first decade of retirement, so I say they deserve the merely psychological benefit of their paltry clawed back net benefit). Same goes for a couple declaring $315K.

I note that you picked a) a couple 75 (or + for maximum effect).

b) a couple. Enragement Engagement works best when multiplied by two :) so using the example of a couple >75 is by design.

It definitely comes across as Enragement Trolling.

Although I agree with a lot of your narrative. I find Brian is waking up to a balance and is realizing the Liberals/NDP are NO longer what they were in the 70's up. They're now far left under the umbrella of the CCP, City of London/Crown. Canada was never a Sovereign country. Giving BC land away to the Natives. It is CRIMINAL. People are just coming to this conclusion. BTW I up listening/reading the MSM. A PROPAGANDA government funded mouth piece. I follow Independent news with 'Boots on the Ground'.

Claudette Leece's avatar

What I find amazing countries have no issues condemning Iran, Russia, China but how many times do you ever hear anyone bring up the city of London who over the years stole enough funds from countries to run the US three times over, have secretly murdered thousands if not millions, have caused death and destructions to countries they just dont like, have planted spies in countries governments, I could go on but in the end, if you look at what was done and.continue to go on, until they are cut off at the knees and their illegal funds never reach them , nothing will change. Thats why its so comforting to realize their are people out there who have made it their mission to do just that.

Is the time now for the buffoon Ford to initiate his plan to " dismantle the US".

Claudette Leece's avatar

😂😂😂 oh lord thanks for the laugh. Canadians are laughing at him. He.couldnt dismantle a jigsaw puzzle.

Greg Schaap's avatar

Let’s be real. The only thing Ford can dismantle is the Ontario economy and the buffet.

Time was, journalists were articulate people with curiosity and writing skills. Then universities, as part of the long march of Marxist twats invading Academe, invented Journalism schools, and trust in media has been on downward spiral ever since.

Am I the only one disturbed that our strongest negotiating card with the U.S. is booze?? Ford has made a number of questionable decisions, but to be labelled a xenophobe for refusing benefits to illegal immigrants is ludicrous! Canadians who have paid into the systems for decades & forced by the Liberal government to pay ever increasing taxes are suffering daily. The Liberal party & its voters are insane. Canada is so lost!

Mike Blew's avatar

The illegal immigrants should be arrested and deported! Illegal, illegal!

Kimmer's avatar

These supposed illegals are not just receiving Welfare, its carte blanche credit card almost, better healthcare, better living expense, clothing allowance, the list is unending! to the tune of almost 83K a year, not a single Canadian on WELFARE receives this gross amount. Cant afford to live in Canada go back to your land that you came from! Deport should be our Motto, cant afford the Canadian Lifestyle too bad, neither can we, but this is our Country born and raised here, WE deserve more than illegals

Kim's avatar

Our Vets and disabled Canadians make $1,300./mo While an illegal, refugee, asylum seekers bring in $8,000.mo. receiving; clothing, transportation, housing, medical, dental, eye care, education - The Works. Meanwhile Lib/ndp launder our tax $$$ across the pond and into Brooksfield.

Athol Cohen's avatar

Obviously, the lunatics are running the asylum!

Martin Dixon's avatar

Maybe that judge has the mad cow. They should kick him off the bench. This decision is about as savage as appellate judges get without adding "perhaps judging is not for everyone".

The really impressive part is that this judgement probably had the benefit of law clerks. Apparently an entire collection of expensive law educations managed to miss the fairly basic distinction between "I don't like this law" and "this law is unconstitutional". But no surprise given the current state of our "higher institutions of learning".

Oh and of course he was appointed by Justin.

jimmmy's avatar

So how many more boils in Canada's judiciary are festering with these impending 'genius' decisions? You know, decisions like a constitutional right to relieving your bowels on a Toronto street because you are homeless? Or you are permitted to set up a domicile camp in downtown Montreal because you are homeless? This is not a compassionate Canadian society - it is a mean one - with privileged activist judges harming Canadians daily (bunging up the courts).

Jerry Grant's avatar

One down, one thousand goofy decisions to go...

Brad Eamer's avatar

We need recall Legislation for rogue Judges just as much as wayward Politicians. When there’s been a clear deviation from the normal and reasonable adjudication of law or policy, that person should be removed.

K Brooker's avatar

We are falling apart and it’s all because of weak and/or nonexistent leadership. Carney’s on vacation while our country burns down!

Greg Schaap's avatar

Thanks for the article, Brian. I’d been following the bike lanes story since you initially wrote on it. I’m glad that ridiculous ruling was treated as the ridiculous notion it really was!

UncleMac's avatar

Is there any mechanism for removing a judge with a pattern of activist decision contrary to the rule of law?

Kim's avatar

Con Carney can't find a way out of a "Wet Paper Bag". He is the mouth piece of CCP and the City of London/Crown. Therefore, Canada is not a Sovereign Country and never was.

KZwick's avatar

Canada could drop all retaliation tariffs and restructure its protection racket known as supply management. Then it could call out the USA for its hypocrisy on free market capitalism which should win its case in the Court of Public Opinion on both sides of the border. People could still buy local, buy Canadian, and leave their Elbows Up while pressuring the USA to play fair.

Alas, Kanadastan is however a Socialst regime and you can't grow up to be Communist if you're not oppressed by an enemy.

No Jack Daniels for Elbownia.

Marj Andres's avatar

If you ever run for premier or prime minister, I’ll be your number one supporter. I hope that won’t mean you’ll change because I notice often that if politicians lips are moving, they’re probably lying. There are a few notable exceptions in the Conservative Party and even fewer in the Liberals (but they were forced out).

Peter Denomy's avatar

My goodness Brian, I was reading the section about idiot "“Justice” Paul Schabas" and wondering... Did your keyboard survive? 😂

Seriously, great article!

Cheers.

Maybe the light bulb will go on for those folks that have placed this governing body on a high untouchable pedestal.

Maybe when Stellantis pulls up stakes , and Beijing enters the scene with replacement EV’s (and probably tech to replace workers ?)…they might have a better understanding of who’s side Carney is really on. 😏
